So I bought a couple cheap Turks. Bad bores, bad wood, pitting, etc.
Turks are kind of a bastard: large ring action with small ring threads. Some have even worse inconsistencies. Luckily these two seem to be on the standard side.
I ordered 2 barrels; a standard Turk 8mm barrel, and a shorter sporter barrel. Either a replacement or a turned down and shortened mil barrel, not sure. Good bore and chamber. So I bought all the tools and other shit. Decided to do a sort of scout/trench/Argentine bastard thingie.
I picked up a repop trench mag. It broke. I have to weld it, or modify it. Still up in the air on that. I got the rebarrelling part done. I solved soldered the front and rear sight back on. Added a Williams fire sight the front. painted the whole thing with alumahyde. Bead blasted and reblued the rest of the parts.
I cut the stock down, and reshaped the front to use the bayonet mount band in the front. Might come in handy for something later........
I'm still deciding on trigger stuff, optic or not, and what exactly I wanna do with the magazine.
I only have the one shitty pic, I'll see if I can get some better ones.

Interesting project!

I assume that's the longer barrel on there...?

I'm interested to see how the mag turns out.

My first project gun was a Turk Mauser. Must have been about 15 years ago.
The boar was good and it shot great.
I learned a lot on that rifle. Cut the barrle down. Drilled and tapped front sight and
Williams 5D receiver sight. Reshaped and glass/piller bedded the stock. And lots more I'm sure.
It was ugly as sin but I could pop the center out of a clay pigeon at 100 yards.
I love the Mauser rifle. I look forward to seeing more of your post. :thumbsup2:

No that's the short one. I'll put the two side by side and snap a pic.
Today I ordered go and no go headspace gauges. Just to be sure.

The big issued myself and a few of my buddies had with the stocks was that oil kept bleeding through.
Spend a few hours sanding and removing the sticky oily residue. And the next day It'd leach right back out.
Kinda frustrating after all the houres I put into that stock.

I used oven cleaner on the stock. Left it sit for a couple hours, scrubbed off the finish, then left it sit in clean water overnight. Rinsed with hot water, and it's been clean dry wood for a long time now. The stock hardware is kinda sad.

Btw......it was nasty. The cosmoline had soaked into it, bad.

Removed Barrel and new barrel

The wood

And a better idea of the vision in it's rough state

Comparison of the thing vs the wood and barrel of the other two turks I bought

The other is going to be a rough rebuild back to military configuration.

The old barrels are going to be the handle for my ammo Locker:

Which is just an old job box

That stock needs some character which you can do with a propane torch and then a light sanding and then a refinish. I have Jukar that I did that to as the stock is hardwood but just no color.

I'm stuck on what I want to do for optic/mount.
I don't want cheap shit that screws onto the sight base, but I'm not sure I wanna spend as much on the optic mount as I have on the rifle.

I have a set of older Weaver mounts. They let you swing your scope off to the left side so you can use your iron sight.
I'll make you a deal on them. PM me if intereste.
But if it were my project I'd get a set of Tally rings.
