The few times I carried a bolt rifle in traditional carry I really disliked it. I tried a couple different things over the past year but, they didn't work together. So it was time for a side mount for the sling.

I didn't take pictures of the process as I was head deep in on getting it as non bubba looking as possible.

So far in work space static carry it carried well and didn't turn out very much.

I assume you just epoxied the mount into the stock? Looks good however be careful. Pay attention to any signs of the epoxy working loose. You may have to figure out a way to reinforce the mount with a "backup" inside the forend. One way would be to rout a slot in the barrel channel and epoxy a piece of metal in it that can be drilled and tapped.

Another method would be to use a QD mount that is secured with two fasteners like the magpul. Then put a QD adapter on the end of your sling.

I'm with you in hating the standard carry where the sling is mounted to the bottom of the forend. I'm now working on a "biathlon type" sling using two padded Magpul slings with Paraclips on each end and a QD mount on my side rail. Real will hook into the "footman's loop" on the buttstock (Magpul PRS on TAC-21 Chassis). Much easier to carry a heavy rifle with two slings, even if it's just from truck to shooting position which sometimes is a bit of a hike.
