I hope I have the correct forum for this question. If they seem a little stupid I haven’t built a AR in 5 yrs. I need as little advice on the laws fed/state.
I am finally starting my build using the Molon Labe billet lower from the Group Buy $89.95. I have a basic trigger group in it but plan on taking that out for a top line one before I am finished. I just received my order for a 5.56 Nitride MPI/HPT Full-Auto Bolt Carrier Group -.
My questions are, My Lower is bought as “other” and has never been built. I am wondering if I build it as a pistol does it have to stay as one or can I switch it to a SBR which is what I want it to be when finished.
Second question. When I have this built a pistol/SBR can I keep the configuration but change out the caliber, say I have a SBR 5.56, can I then swap the upper into a 300blk. From all I have read I see no problem with this but never hurts to ask if you haven’t done it yet.
Also, can I take a SBR say in 300blk and switch it to the new Nosler bullet at 2,950 fps out of an AR-15 upper fitted with an 18” or 20” barrel & Bolt Carrier Group – This is what I am looking at building.
I hope I am right on these rules . Also, thank God for Donald Trump, the prices of AR is down to 399, handguns are much more available and cheaper as is ammo and powder. I took my first trip on a plane with my .45 this summer from sea/tac to Indy with no problems, On the way out of SeaTac they did make me open every thing up including the gun and ammo case which I thought was them being liberal asses but leaving Indy on the way back they never even inspected my checked bag.

1) Yes, if you build it as a pistol first (which I recommend), you can change it to an SBR later. 2) As an SBR, yes you can swap for other caliber and length uppers. It’s recommended that you retain the original caliber/length so you can go back to it at some point. 3) See 2).
