Conn. reaches deal on tough gun laws after NewtownQuote: Connecticut lawmakers announced a deal Monday on what they called some of the toughest gun laws in the country that were proposed after the December mass shooting in the state, including a ban on new high-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones used in the massacre that left 20 children and six educators dead.
The proposal includes new registration requirements for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets, something of a disappointment for some family members of Newtown victims who wanted an outright ban on the possession of all high-capacity magazines and traveled to the state Capitol on Monday to ask lawmakers for it.
The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, creates a new "ammunition eligibility certificate," imposes immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales, and extends the state's assault weapons ban to 100 new types of firearms and requires that a weapon have only one of several features in order to be banned.
The newly banned weapons could no longer be bought or sold in Connecticut, and those legally owned already would have to be registered with the state, just like the high-capacity magazines.
"No gun owner will lose their gun," said House Minority Leader Lawrence Cafero Jr., a Norwalk Republican. "No gun owner will lose their magazines." Read the rest: http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_289563/conten ... d=bl9MdDpl

Hopefully the gun owners of Connecticuit will resist the new legislation. By force if necessary.
OAN: How is this a compromise? What did the pro-gun reps (assuming there are some) get in the deal that they agreed to this? It says "bi-partisan" but I don't see anything that would look like it should garner support from the Republican side. Although, recently they have been saying "bi-partisan" only based on which letter they have after their name, not the people they represent.

There was an article on NBC news about how "families" of the survivors were mad they are grandfathering in pre existing magazines.
So when another event happens (or is acted out) then they (anti's) will turn and say "See, told you we should have took them all"

The bill is not yet passed, it goes to vote on Wednesday morning.
This is part of politics -- making people believe it's already passed in order to defeat opposition support before the deadline. You better believe that the NRA-ILA in Connecticut is sending mail like crazy right now to residents in that state. The headline is that they've reached a deal, not that they've actually enacted any legislation yet.
