I'm having a little trouble deciphering the condition I can leave my pistol in an unattended vehicle.

https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=9.41.050

1. If I do not have a CPL, the pistol cannot be loaded at any time. It can be left in a locked vehicle (including within sight or out of sight)?
2. If I have a CPL, I can leave a pistol in a locked vehicle loaded but out of sight?

I'm not asking for what's smart, but the limits of what is legal.

Does "locked" mean the vehicle being locked? Does this ever refer to the trunk specifically or a separately locked container?

Does out of sight include under the foot-well or under a seat? Center console?

(3)(a) A person at least eighteen years of age who is in possession of an unloaded pistol shall not leave the unloaded pistol in a vehicle unless the unloaded pistol is locked within the vehicle and concealed from view from outside the vehicle.

One thing I can promise you is that if you leave it in a car not hidden from view, you will find a window broken and your gun gone.
Please be a responsible gun owner

It's not like my old High School days when all the pickup trucks had rifles/shotguns in the rear window rack and no one locked their vehicles (or their houses).

Even locked down someone will probably try and steal it.

Console, glove box, under the seat....... just make sure the doors are locked.
To avoid a tragic misunderstanding, don't keep a firearm in the same place as your insurance card and vehicle registration.
