You stay the hell away from it, mister. I don't need a purple Snider...

Get him to do it up in Pan-African colors then.

I was thinking a more traditional approach.

Seems it's just Pablo and the YL that are into the purple.

Oh hell no!!

Clean it up and leave it alone. Any missing parts will need to be replaced with originals, but that's as far as it goes in my opinion.

FIFY, but otherwise, that's a fairly accurate list.

Okay - I am camping this weekend, will be sure to wave the winkie over top of the camp fire a couple of times.

All right, the box showed up a few days ago . . . and I finally got around to opening it this weekend. Yes, it's been that kind of week, with SHOT and all. And yes, usrifle was invited to the unboxing but he stood me up in favor of watching professional sports on TV. :cussing:

The rifle was packed inside an oversized box with about five pounds of styrofoam peanuts. Yes, that's a lot of peanuts! Inside all of those peanuts was the bubble-wrapped rifle:

I started unwrapping . . . .

OK, I'll skip right to the bottom line here so you don't need to look through all of my pics. Here's a video:

I didn't have a chance to get a decent bore pic, but here's a crappy attempt at one:

The bore looks REALLY good, actually; it may be hard to see in that photo. It clearly needs to be swabbed out, but looking down it with a flashlight it looks quite good, and even shiny in some places. I suspect that once I get it cleaned it will be in better condition than the barrels on some of my other rifles . . . . icon_eek

All in all, I'm very, VERY happy with it so far. I still need to spend time cleaning it up, and I need to get the action open. However, next week is going to be as busy as last week so it's going to take a little time to get it all done. This is all I can do for now.

Looks like you did very well sir. I generally won't buy when they give warnings like they did with this one even though they're underselling.

Congrats on the good find!

Looks great! Time to soak everything in Kroil...

Are you suggesting that Brown Guns Matter?

Re: My latest purchase. I mean gamble.

this is one gun that I would NOT recommend refinishing...just some oil and a terry cloth rag (perhaps some oil soaked burlap for the stubborn areas) and she'll be back in battlefield condition in no time

Re: My latest purchase. I mean gamble.

Yeah, I would have liked to have been there, but it was a busy day for me. Sports ball at noon and then my son's 15th B-day celebration took precedent.
I must say Steve had more patience than I, I would have opened it up the day it came! Condition looks promising, can't wait to see it cleaned up. :thumbsup2:
So, got any reloading data for that bad boy?...and any Brass yet?

I don't have any plans to refinish it, just clean it up. I'm definitely going to do some studying before I do any cleaning, though, to make sure I use the right materials on both the metal and the wood.

usrifle wrote:So, got any reloading data for that bad boy?...and any Brass yet?

This is also going to require some studying. I did a little reading a few weeks ago when I ordered it, and I think I'll have two basic options:

1) Buy a larger press that can accommodate large dies, and reload for it properly. Of course, buying a press for a single rifle seems ridiculous, so maybe I'll need to buy a 50BMG rifle as well. :wink05:
-or-
2) Do the quick-and-easy reloading method, sans press: https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categori ... 577-SNIDER

Can you guess which way I'm leaning?

Hmmm. Mine has the little spring-loaded locking tab on the left side of the breech block, so I think mine must be a MkIII. And that's probably a good thing!
