Why? Aren't cans legal in Oregon?

And might be be one of the most accurate too, with hardly a noise except the strike of the bullet.

SBR it?

Maybe latter, but...
I live on the Oregon border. If I want to take this into Oregon now, I just take the can out of the case. If I SBR it, it can't cross the border.(Not reasonably). I put this together so I would have something that could extend the range of all my 9mm ammo, use all my Glock 9mm mags, and would fit into a discrete case. The suppressor makes it nice for varmint control where you might not want to bother/attract attention, of others, but I shoot more 124g +p out of it without the can. It is very accurate. Golf balls at 50 yards.

When I think SBR I think 7.62x51
I wish they made this in 10mm.

:facepalm2: Sounds like you need two of them.... :cheers2:

Clatsop County Oregon Sheriff told me I have to have written permission each time I cross into Oregon with any class III item. I was told failure to do so was a felony.

It's legal to carry a loaded rifle in your vehicle in Oregon, as in a loaded AK on the seat is legal, but no suppressor without letting them know your coming first.

That's a federal thing I think, about notifying them when your evil scary Class III thingies cross state lines

No, not required for suppressors. Just for SBRs and probably the other things that we can't have in WA.

Interesting. I wonder if it's actually true?

Fortunately he is wrong. Lots of CLEOs and LEOs tend to not quite know the laws, just like the rest of the world. Shit is confusing and obfuscated for a reason. Wouldn't want you having that freedom shit, now would we?

What he is talking about is a 5320.20 form, for any Title II item (Not class 3. No such thing.) EXCEPT Suppressors. (I used to think that it was required for cans, until the nice ATF lady told me "Why you do this?".)

You can fill one of these out and have them good for the span of the year. It is the same form you use when moving across state lines.

There is no need to notify anyone when taking a can across state lines when they are legal in the destination state.

Instead of SBR, could a person do a permanently mounted suppressor on a shorter barrel? Then just 16 inches total length and one less tax stamp.

Yes, as long as the barrels OAL stays over 16".

Or you can do up an SBR, then pop a 16" barrel on it when you need to cross state lines.
