I am engaged in an agenda to get cool looking old style guns of late. I am also prohibited by the liberal media from posting full pics, since I'm just snapping some quick pics to satisfy our cake eating overlord who got interested when I mentioned one of these rifles. H&R Model 1871 "Buffalo Classic" with 4x fixed power Unertl style scope, and a H&R Model 1873 Trapdoor replica and a replica bayonet for it.







Couple quick and dirty shots of the Trapdoor. Too lazy to play with the white balance on my camera tonight. It's rigged for photographing insulators in natural light, and since that's most of what I use it for, indoor gun pics under poor lighting will suck.

The H&R 1871 is a modern rifle, basically a fancified Handi Rifle. It originally shipped with Lyman globe and peep sights.

The Trapdoor is a rifle length replica made in the 70's by H&R.

As for where I found these, I did some horse trading with an old friend who hadn't shot these in years and was in lust with my .308 AR.

I now no longer own a .308 AR.

The scoped rifle is the one that set Bill Starks on the painful and ruinous road to 45-70 addiction.

Can you shoot full-house loads out of the 1871? Don't try that with the Trapdoor....

Since you won't be able to afford to feed both of these rifles, you should sell the 1871 to me. You can then afford to feed the Trapdoor. Win-win.

Yeah you can shoot full house through the 1871. Like Ruger #1 loads. I've shot a few through it and watched Bill shoot like 30 in a row from it.

The scope was given to my friend by Randy Loun, the retired attorney who wrote the nasty letter to the Olympia PD for me threatening them with hellfire and class action lawsuits if they ever fucked with another person open carrying again. For those who don't know, Randy was a medically retired cop, and when he became an attorney, his specialty was suing police departments.

I want one of those Buffalo Classics....they did a special edition one that had a high polished finish and factory engraving.....

Turns out H&R refinished a lot of original parts for the Trapdoor rather than remake them, like barrel bands and whanot. Piedersoli bought their tooling when they got out of the trapdoor business.

I have a soft spot for my .45-70 trap door.
I love to see the look on the AR shooters with their Trijicon Acogs-equipped rifles at the range when we retrieve targets.

Good iron sights on a rifle are a joy to shoot.

One thing to watch for on the H&R trapdoors is the trapdoor locking cam.
H&R used a two-piece thumb/cam lock, on which the cam is on a round shaft held in place by a set screw.
The originals used a square shaft.
The H&R's have a habit of popping open when fired if the screw is loose or wears on the shaft.

People recommend drilling a little bit into the shaft to give the screw a recess to hold onto, some replace the lock with an original.
I drilled mine and put some locktite on the screw.
