The thumb hole stocks are SKS Sporters. What you have there is a true "M"

So what one if any is the more sought after version?

My bad Sissy is correct. The M model came with both types of stocks, the D only had standard stock and the 20 in barrel

They are all sought after but I would say the D is the most sought after. You may recall the local felon chasing my M Sporter pretty aggressively. Ha!

Does the mag require a slight sideways push as you detach it?

Both of my SKS-Ms require a slight push to the side while extracting. I think that might be by design. Both mine also have thumbhole stocks, so it's possible your stock is not "stock."

Cool rifle though.

Very nice!
I'm pretty sure they came standard with a 10 rd "drop bottom" mag like mine but I could be mistaken.
I have 3 after market Tapco 30 rd mags but it requires the bolt to be held back while you switch out these after market mags. That is not the case with the 10 rd mag that came with my rifle.
Nice score!

Pics below, that middle mag is the stock, the two on the sides are after market.

What is the factory symbol on it?
26 inside a triangle? Like this?
