So I started with an old 1980's era 10/22 stock. I took a file to the grip area to make it fit the hand better. Just filed away it till it felt right. Then I lightened up the buttstock with a huge hole, reshaped the forend to get rid of the barrel band and routered in some grooves just kinda fits with your fingers. Had to open up the inside to accept the takedown hardware and routered out a bit more underneath so you could get to the takedown release pin. Was a bit rushed and didn't take my time in a few areas like when I cut it in half and totally cut it on the wrong side of my line but I made it work. To stain this since it's the cheap birch or beech wood I used rit fabric die. It's mostly dark brown with a bit of red and a bunch of alcohol to dilute it. After that dried I started putting on coats of tru-oil while sanding it back down with 000 and 0000 steel wool in between coats. I'm not done with coats of tru-oil yet but I'm taking a break for now. Wish I would have taken a bit more time in a few areas but I started rushing cause I was putting way too much time into it. Thanks to Greg I had to swap out my original stainless Takedown for one of the threaded barrel takedowns while in the middle of hacking my stock up. Well on to the pic's hope you guys enjoy.

Nicely done! :thumbsup2: What products did you use to fill the grain and finish it?

Hey thanks everyone, I actually just filled the grain with the Tru-oil. Sanding with steel wool between coats and it smoothed out really quick. Then just kept putting on more coats, the grain really started showing it's detail and the keeps looking better with every additional coat I put on it. I probably have 10 coat's of tru-oil on it right now. I stained the wood with the Rit Fabric die mixed with alcohol. Dark brown mixed with some red.

Well done Jordan!!! You should be proud of that! You've always liked the shinny wood and now you have some of your own!

Man that would be sweet to cut one out to fit a spare magazine.

Thanks for the positive feedback everybody. It has me tempted to buff it down again to try to get a finish coat on it.

Outstanding work! Seriously, that is really cool! I love how you beveled the left front side of the cutout almost mimicking a thumbhole stock cutout.

Great idea and really nice follow though! I may need to get a stainless 10/22 now.
