Well, I'm running low on rifles here . . . I might have to do some emergency shopping over the weekend. jestera
This is the second of my three SKSs, a Yugo M59/66 made in 1973:
The M59/66 has a grenade launcher on it; that's the long muzzle attachment that you can see. Slip a special grenade over the launcher, flip up the grenade sight, load a blank cartridge into the chamber, and POW! you can cause a whole lot of destruction. Theoretically. I don't ever expect to get a chance to use it. :((
But these guys can do it! Check it out:
The photo below shows the grenade sight flipped up and ready to use, and you can also see the night sights; look for the light dot in front of the front sight:
Here's a closeup with the night sight flipped down, so you can't see it:
There are flip-up night sights on the rear sight, too, but I didn't include a photo of them. By the way, the night sights on this gun are loooong dead, they don't glow at all.
And one last SKS, this one Russian and built in (I believe) 1956 in the Tula arsenal:
This rifle is in pristine condition, so I'm sure it was re-arsenaled at some point. All numbers match, including the number on the stock . . . though the stock has another number that was X'd out.
I bought this from someone who told me that it was his dad's gun, and as far as he knew it had never been fired. I haven't fired it either. I'm pretty confident that it hasn't been fired since it was re-arsenaled. BUT . . . perhaps I should have said that I haven't fired it yet, because it's going to get used! :D As far as I'm concerned, guns are made for shootin' and not for lookin'!
Okay folks, I'm down to my last rifle . . . so if this thread is going to continue, it's going to have to be with someone else's help!
Here's my M1 Garand, which I bought one year ago tomorrow for $425, which I think was a steal especially considering that it came with 121 rounds of ammo and an ammo can! This rifle was a "rack grade" CMP rifle in approximately 2008, and was manufactured in the 1955-1957 time frame. It's a Springfield Armory, serial number 5.8 million.
It has a Danish tag in the stock, so apparently it spent some time overseas (or at least the stock did?):
This isn't a show rifle, but I just LOVE to shoot it. When I said at the beginning of this thread that the SVT-40 was "probably my favorite of the lot," I felt guilty because I felt like I was cheating on my Garand . . . LOL. Anyhow, they're both right at the top of my list. For those of you who haven't shot a Garand, I'd highly recommend finding a friend who has one and giving it a try!
Oh, and my thanks to usrifle who gave me a lot of advice and help when I bought the Garand; he knows these guns inside and out, and was very generous in helping me get started!
Okay, I'm going to switch it up a bit . . . from those beautiful rifles that kgbsucka posted to one that looks a little rattier! (Which is why I like it.)
Here's my Romanian SKS, dated 1958. As most of you know, this has a 10-round fixed magazine and is chambered in 7.62x39.
See how so much of the metal finish is worn? Looks pretty crappy, right? Well, that's the part that really lights my fire -- I love that look! I can't say that this rifle really has that BFPU (battlefield pick-up) look, but at least the metal has it. Here's a better closeup:
Can anyone top that in the crappy department?
The SKS I got shot with looked worse than this one. I don't have any pics of the rifle, but have a pic of the result of one.

Downtown Baghdad May 2007. The bullet actually hit my M4 first. That slowed down the bullet and saved my life. God bless the AR15 platform . I would put up a picture of the exit wound but it might be too graphic for this site. What do you guys think?
