The one sitting at the table was not an IDPA legal stage but its still fun shooting.
Why no cover garment when wearing the kilt?
The IDPA club I go to is on the small side so we really just focus on having fun. We've had shotgun pistol matches and we're getting ready to do some just shotgun only matches.
No cover on the kilt day for the same reason I was wearing it; just way too hot. It was about 105 that day so we weren't making anyone wear them if they didn't want to... and I'm a USPSA guy at heart do I jumped at the opportunity.

Yeah I swear like a sailor most of the time. I meant to post this Kilt video though

Please don't take this as picking on you personally. Its just IDPA Clubs that think like that.
I'm on the side that says if they don't want to run by the rules thats fine, but then don't call it an IDPA match. They can call it what ever they want and run it how ever they want but if is being called an IDPA match it should run under ALL the IDPA rules. It doesn't matter what size the club is.
I love shooting IDPA. I travel all over Western Washington and sometimes Western Oregon to shoot IDPA matches. I'm shooting the Washington State IDPA Championship, the Idaho State IDPA Championship and the California State IDPA Championship, all in the next 3 months. I shoot IDPA for competition, I shoot to win my Class/Division. I shot a match last Saturday in Puyallup and I'm shooting a match tonight in Arlington.
When I go to a match that is CALLED an IDPA match, I expect it to be an IDPA match following ALL the IDPA rules.
I admit, the stage where you are sitting at the table that is illegal because of too many no-shoots, does affect everyone. Everyone has to shoot it that way with that many no-shoots. But there are lots of times that "local rules" would give an advantage to a local shooter over a visiting shooter that knows nothing about the "local rules". The visiting shooter shoots a stage under the exact IDPA rules because this is an IDPA match, then sees the next shooter after him shoot and do something against IDPA rules and that gives the shooter a better stage score. He asks the SO about it and is told "we are just a small club and thats how we do it here". Thats totally not fair for the visiting shooter.
This could apply to both IDPA and USPSA. But since I shoot way more IDPA, thats where I see it. Just doing a quick search on the BE forum, USPSA "local rules" doesn't seem as much as a problem as in IDPA.

I undestand your frusteration but for what it's worth on that particular day during the safety brief all of the shooters were told that due to the heat no one is going to be required to wear a cover garment and everyone was told to hydrate. We just didn't want anyone to get heat stroke. Some chose to wear it anyway. I don't like wearing a vest so when I use a cover garment I usually just untuck a shirt or wear a Hawian shirt in the summer and use whatever jacket I wore to the range in the winter/fall.
As for the extra no-shoots on the stage with the chair the guy that is normally match director couldn't be there that day; he had a wedding or something like that; the guy filling in is nice enough but I don't think he's up on all of the stage design rules. The options were cancel the monthly match or let him run it so he ran it.
I didn't mean to start a debate; I'm sorry for any animosity it might have cause.

Don't worry about it! Like I said none of this is directed to you, its just my rant as a traveling shooter. If its called an IDPA match it should run all IDPA rules. If you go on the official IDPA forum you can find many, many threads about "local rules" or sometimes called "tribal rules".
The exception I can see is for health and safety. So I can understand the MD saying no cover garments because of the heat. I've heard of that in several matches in the SouthWest because its normally way over 100 degrees when they shooting the summer. If they announce it in the morning meeting before the match starts, so everyone knows and its a health or safety reason its good with me.
I have no animosity to you at all! Thank you for posting and please keep posting your videos! I hope we can shoot together at a match someday!!
Cool. Some of those local rules were why they had to clarify cover in the new rule book too. I really do like the addition of the "outlaw" class though. For those that want to run a tac light or whatever RMR or whatever the hell.
I was at a match yesterday and got the video uploaded.

Nice!! Video! What hat cam are you using?
I've skimmed the Draft of the new IDPA rules. But I need to really read the final version, I only have one week left to re-certify as an IDPA SO.
I prefer the way the Contour operates compared to the GoPro even tough the GoPro takes better video. I really like that I can reach up and feel if the camera is on, with the GoPro you have no idea with that button instead of a switch.
