Realize also those of us that got next day approvals is because we already waited previously and received a decline due to a change in interpretation of WA law or others for minor errors on their application. We have already waited 4 months or more like everyone else. Then you re-apply and email Ted and he bumps your corrected (now legal) application to the front of the line, pretty nice thing for a govt employee to do when you think about it. The physical process of reviewing the application, background check etc does not seem to take very long, but there are tens of thousands of them sent in each month. Based on some of the approvals I have seen (4:45am) they may even be running multiple shifts to try and keep up. There is a backlog, I find it extremely hard to believe they get our applications, date stamp them and put them in a file only to be opened after X waiting period, the waiting period is what it is because we are all addicts applying for new items and convincing our buddies to do the same...

I'm sure there's more on the nics site... And they have way less issues. And a way less wait time

Got my second Form 1 approval as a "correction" from March 2015. First one was approved by Ted in 18 hours, second one in less than 12 hours. Uncle Ted works long and hard days, both came in around 11-midnight his time.
That was both Form 1's I had in progress when the denials came. Now I've two new ones in progress and need to get at least 2-3 more rolling before July 13th. The downside to not being to able to file Form 1's for the past year I collected several "pistols" that need SBR status.

I am in the same boat, but just getting 2 done at lightening speed more than makes up for a few months to wait.

Now I am having issue where it will not let me open and view the completed form in pdf.. I like to save the pending ones in my file with approved ones so everything is in one place. Specially giving the flakeyness of atf site..

I was able to submit 2 Form 1s just now. It took about 30 minutes each and probably would've been quicker if I had not saved at every step.
As someone who works in software development, I have to say that the site was about what I expected from a government website (not user friendly, slow, but pretty straightforward). I'm not sure why they give you the option to upload documents, and then on the very next step give you the ability to upload docs again. Also, on the very last step I got an error message and a success message at the same time, but the status went into SUBMITTED. That's confusing and makes me nervous, so hopefully it's right in their system.
