Welcome to WaGuns. :wavey:

In short, here's the process:

1) Submit (via eFile to the ATF) a Form 1. Await ATF approval of that Form 1, which will take a few months.
2) Get your receiver engraved with the required information.
3) Build the SBR.

A couple of things to watch out for....

- Here in Washington, we can't file the Form 1 until June 9th due to our recent Washington law change.
- The ATF process is going to change in July to require photos and fingerprints, so to minimize your hassle you should file before then.

The other option would be to have your SBR processed through a Class 3, SOT dealer. Basically, you take you 'homemade' SBR to the Class 3 dealer and pay the fee, the dealer does all the paperwork and submits to the ATF. Once approved, you pick your SBR from the dealer including the Tax stamp. Now there is a fee associated with this process. The SOT dealer I am working with charges $120. 00. You will have to have the receiver engraved, which has an associated cost. The dealer has this process included. Several forum members were able to do the Form 1 for SBR before the ATF
shut it down. This is just something tu o consider. If you subtract the general engraving fee, the SOT cost is about $85.00 depending on cost of the engraving.

4) Take lots of pictures (artsy and otherwise), and post the best ones here.
5) If you're the kind of person who gets high on bragging about what a small fortune you spent in your selection of specialty parts, be sure to include that list, too - someone will surely be impressed.
6) If you ever shoot it, post your best target.
