So, thinking about a suppressor for my 9mm AR SBR. Is it a good idea to get one in .45 and have it available for use with all my pistols as well as the AR? Or is the best sound suppression going to be with a caliber specific suppressor? Quietest is my main goal.
Educate me, please!

you can have the best of both worlds, get a 45 silencer that has interchangeable end caps, then get a 9mm endcap for when you want to use it one your sbr. dont forget to get the 1/2x28 fixed mount too.

My Specwar 7.62 works equally as well on 5.56 or .30 cal. It actually is slightly better at sound reduction on a 5.56 than the Specwar 556 can. It it is larger than the 556 can though. I am always interested in buying something that can be used on multiple platforms without having to make any other changes than screwing off or on. Even if it's slightly less effective. Gotta stretch those dollars and NFA stuff isn't cheap!

If you're serious about that, and you're looking for the ultimate silencer, then I would go with a caliber-specific suppressor.
For me, versatility is more important than squeezing out the last tenth of a decibel. I bought an Octane 45 a while back (thanks to dj_fatty for the advice!), and I've been really happy with that because I use it for both 9mm and .45, and on both rifles and pistols.
The Silencerco Hybrid is REALLY versatile. I don't have one in my hands, but I have one in NFA jail.
On a related note, I also bought a .223 suppressor (Liberty Constitution), but in hindsight I would have bought a .30-cal suppressor for more versatility (perhaps to use with a .22 endcap). Or who knows, maybe the Hybrid will work well on a .223, I guess I'll see in a few months.
