My previous form1 projects were from SDT, Apogee, Napa Auto parts.
I bought a freeze plug forming tool on ebay, makes a 45 degree come and a center mark in one shot. Drilled a pilot hole and used a 60 degree live center from a lathe to press the cone deeper and up up the hole to .30cal.
Freeze plugs work, they work better as cones. I dont see the need to buy machined plugs , especially in aluminum. That's what I was worried about. What's the turn around time for sdt? The main reason I would consider diversified machine is the fact that I just like their end cap Style a lot better I havent ordered from sdt in 9 months, at that time it was a week or so. I got mine in less than a week. I ordered all Ti components but SS freeze plugs.

SDT all the way here, only I would NOT buy the freeze plugs from them. No reason to pay a couple dollars each for something you can order thru local napa/Orielly's for $.40/ea Soldier_Citizen wrote: Got a package in the mail today. Def efile it is faster both for you to fill out and get approval. I think someone just posted a link in the other form1 thread.

Just got another shipment from sd tactical. Ordered last Wednesday. Had them do the engraving on the tube. Took exactly a week to get. Engraving looks good. Went with a 9.6 inch titanium tube with titanium end caps. Plan is to run this on my long range rifles. 300 win mag. 6.5 creedmoor. And 8.5 inch 300blk ar15.

I know with 80% lowers, using someone else's tools can be a nono. Does the same apply to form 1 cans? I can't see it being more economical to do it this way if I also had to buy the tools

Only issues I know of is having someone else do the work for you

Got mine all put together tonight. Bought the j&s forming tool. It worked great. It is a 9.6 titanium tube. Titanium end caps. 1.7 inch blast chamber and 18 freeze plugs. It is long! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

^ Damn, dude . . . those freeze plugs look GREAT! How many suppressors have you done with freeze plugs? Two? If so, have you done it both with and without the J&S tool, and how would you compare the two experiences?
Also, are those titanium endcaps? If so, did you have any trouble drilling through it?

The first one I did I bought pre formed freeze plugs. They worked good. I actually think that they were made from a j&s tool. I am the guy that likes to buy tools though. The j&s tool works great. I used it in my 20 ton press. That made it real easy to do. Drilling them while in the j&s tool is kind of a pain. They just want to spin. Once you figure out the trick it works good. I was not sure how the end caps were going to drill. Went to Home Depot and got new cobalt drill bits. Started with 3/16 then 1/4 and finished in 3/8. Went threw them no prob with lots of wd 40. Then took a 1/2 inch bit and beveled the edge. Will probably get a chance to test it out on my 300blk next weekend. With any luck I will be able to try it on my 6.5 creedmoor that I was told would be done almost four months ago. Hopefully this is my week to get it back.
