So, I searched & read the first page and didn't see anything on this...

About a year or two ago, I read reviews that weren't good, as they had feed issues.

Well, in the last week, new reviews are out, and they seem favorable.

What it is, is, the 'DM' stands for Detachable Magazine. It's patent-pending.

It's a Magpul mag that holds 6 shells, with one in the chamber.

It looks intriguing, but could also be cumbersome in tight quarters.

Anyone seen one, or have an opinion?

Are they available yet? Remington just announced the lineup a week ago.

I’m intrigued by the Tac14DM, but not at a $600 price tag.

Their website says "Buy Now", but I didn't try to load one into a cart...

I thought perhaps with them working out the kinks for two years, someone may have come across one at Shot Show or demo somewhere.

I think it's an interesting concept. I haven't seen any for sale anywhere, but I'm sure they'll be popping up at distributors and on Gunbroker pretty soon. Might be worth waiting to see what happens to the price before jumping on one.

In other news, Remington might go belly up. Their financial situation is dire.

They were not at SHOT this year, in Jan. (well, Remington was, but not the DM's). You can bet your ass they will be there next month though. Remington usually has a large demo booth at the Range day, so we should be able to give them a shot, literally.

:plusone:

Max capacity in the DM mag is 6.
The 870 Express has a 7 shot tube load option..

So, fast reload would be the only advantage I can see.
Outside of a war zone or Hollywood, how many times would a fast reload after 6-7 full power shells be needed?

I wish they could find a way to make the mag tube work in conjunction with the detachable mag system to increase capacity on the tac14. 6 round mag with 3 more in the tube that load once the mag is empty would be a cool concept.

I was think the same thing, but with added complexity (and failure). Maybe a toggle switch?

I like the concept. Then I was thinking that the mags will be expensive and of course the benefit of a tube fed weapon is no need for more mags and it can store loaded in a far more slim package.

And if you learn a proper tactical reload for a 12 gauge, it's quite fast from a side saddle. Either load as you go, or if you run dry put one in the pipe from the ejection port, ready the weapon, and load from the bottom. Can be done probably marginally slower then a mag reload if you practice.

So, while really cool, I don't have much of a need. A fast full reload isn't high on my shotgun list of priorities.

I can see that. Would agree for most platforms but not necessary for a pump gun. And argument can be made that it's slower, more expensive, and more cumbersome.

Conversely, you could store your 870 on a loaded tube safely and indefinitely. Toss a sidesaddle on and you've got ~14 shells right there in/on the gun. No need to remember the magazine(s).

I just don't see detachable mags as much of an advantage for typical shotgunning needs.

On a loaded gun with 6 shells, there would be no clear advantage to the DM design. There is an arguable disadvantage as well, since the tube feeder can top off as needed.

For rounds 7-12, there would be a possible minor reload advantage of maybe a few seconds. But maybe a wash if the tube feeder had been topping off.

Probably only for an extended firefight, so the only real benefit would be on rounds 13+. Assuming that both have rounds available, loose or in mags.

The DM requires mags, too, which may be problematic itself. No mags is a real problem.

To each their own.

That mag is definitely a more cumbersome package.
Needs top load and stripper clips lol
