Whats the hot ticket or recommended jig for completing an 8 0 per cent lower?

Any jigs better than others? Any lowers that are better than others to complete?

There's a lot on the market and you get what you pay for. If you're planning to use a drill press, there's jigs for that. If you're going to use a hand drill and a router, there's a jig for that. If you're going to use a mill, there's a jig for that. Although a machinist will say they don't need a jig, just a blue print, and will measure it out but, the plates are nice for holding the workpiece. Each jig mfg will have tooling they sell or recommend with their jig.

80%Arms makes three different jigs. I've used their "Easy Jig" for hand drill and router combo a few times to make them mostly with a mill/drill and before that a couple with a hand drill and router.

I've seen a Genesis poly 80% lower be created...the jig for it SUCKED and the lower melted when dude was cutting some of it. Too much heat from the cutter. The lower sucked too. The safety selector point was scrapping the upper edge of the contour on the lower. Dude also dropped the lower and cracked the receiver extension. His hammer pin likes to walkout too.

I've completed lowers from 80%Arms and whatever brand they sold at Rainier Arms a couple years ago that look like a more traditional AR lower. The 80%Arms lowers weigh more than the others. Also, the others, I found were out of spec in the magazine catch area. On two of them I filed the catch on the top side to create relief for moving in and out of the machined area. All of them work reliably.

Most mfgs sell them raw, anodized, or Cerakoted. If you just want to mill and go, get one of the later.

The 80 % arms jig and lower was the one I was looking at. Im pretty competent with tools and have a large workshop full of about anything I need.

The drill and router type is what Im leaning towards.

I that type from 80%Arms without the steel inserts they come with now. I'm probably 10-15 away from you if you want to borrow mine.

Are you better off buying the pre-grouped HSS drill and endmills or is there a better place to source them?

I own lots of jigs, in my quest of constant improvement.

Easy jig, gen 2. Is by far the best.

5D Tactical is a distant 2nd..... but it's not a horse race anymore.

I gotta refer to the local expert "danoh"... I'm pleased with by purchase but I haven't used it yet. That said everything I've read told me it was the best which is why I bought it as well as the exact Dewalt hand router used in their YouTube videos.
The endmills are good for 3 lowers and they are like $40 each. I haven't looked for one locally because I only have 2 Lowers to complete.
I did get a killer deal on two Billet lowers from the same company "get on their email list!!!"

Be wary of an XY vise unless you get a good one. Mine is very sloppy. It works for what I need it for, but I'm not milling stuff to spec. I've learned I can take a lot of the slop out with careful tuning of the ways, but it's still sloppy.
