http://www.guns.com/2017/11/20/congress ... rough-cmp/This has been talked about for a while. Now it's pending POTUS' signature. This was also approved in a previous spending bill by president Obama, but no weapons were ever transferred... "The 2018 National Defense Authorization Act was approved Thursday to include a plan to transfer the U.S. Army’s remaining stock of .45 ACP M1911A1 pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Added as an amendment while the NDAA was in debate in the House Armed Service Committee, it would speed up the transfer of potentially the largest remaining stock of military surplus World War II-era handguns in government hands to the public. The mammoth legislation, which outlines $700 in overall defense spending, cruised to final approval on a voice vote in the Senate and now heads to President Trump. “I call upon the President to sign this important legislation into law—and in doing so acknowledge that this is the level of defense spending necessary to meet current threats, prepare for the challenges of an increasingly dangerous world, and keep faith with our men and women in uniform,” said U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the Armed Services Committee chairman."

Still waiting for the 10,000 1911's Choom Gang Barry had released in FY 2016. And the 86,000 M1 Garands from The Philippines.
But it would be nice if they ever showed up.

I am an NRA instructor and a couple of years ago I taught a new shooter how to shoot his 1911, even though I had not owned or shot one before that class.

Even with Korea era 1911s several of us in my command were able to get our expert pins for pistol qualifications. They are combat pistols, built to loose tolerances deliberately. I'll take a clapped out US issue 1911 any day.

I've got the 1918 built 1911 that my buddies Dad carried as a B17 pilot in WWII...it was an Augusta Arsenal refinish at some point in it's life. It may be a rattle trap as far as "specs" go, but it has never ever failed to function for me.

In case you have missed it, i am a 1911 guy delliottg If the price was right, (and it won't be) i would be a buyer for the frame and slide rollmarks and stampings alone. I am betting that 90 percent of them will "clapped out" though. Meaning they function and are in serviceable condition, but won't shoot for group or with reasonable accuracy. I guess i should have clarified my opinion of clapped out.

Expectations on price range? usrifle wrote: I am betting that 90 percent of them will "clapped out" though. Meaning they function and are in serviceable condition, but won't shoot for group or with reasonable accuracy. Maybe I should just buy a regular production 1911 to learn on.
