So after a long vacation the wife has agreed to let me get a badass new gun I've been looking at for a while.

I don't have hardly any 30 caliber-ish type guns, though I do have a 30 caliber suppressor that I intend to use with a 300BO rifle I'm building.

I was thinking to go big or go home and get a SCAR 17s. I found a local place that sells them new for 2700.

Any other recommendations? I have tons of 556 platforms, 9mm pistols and even a 9mm carbine. I have several WW2 rifles already. Was kind of looking at a DP-12 but I'm more interested in the SCAR than that if I had to choose between them.

Other contenders are:
-Kriss Vector 45 pistol or carbine
-IWI Tavor (although it's 556 so hard to justify)

Any other ideas?

Barret 50bmg is out, too big for our place and nowhere to shoot it.

You did mention a DP-12. Any interest in more traditional defensive shotguns? We're thinking to eventually pick up a Beretta 1301 tactical and equip it with a mag extension and red dot sight. Lots of great reviews out there on the 1301 and a fairly decent aftermarket accessory market through companies like Mesa Tactical, Aridus Industries, and Nordic Components.

Does your 30 cal suppressor handle 300 Win Mag loads? A bolt gun in 300 Win Mag might be a fun toy for long range shooting although lately it seems everyone is on fire for 6.5 Creedmoor.

The scar will be a great choice, or you could build a nice ar10. Maybe get the jack upper/lower set and have it cerakoted to look scary cool!

The SCAR is a great choice, or go have someone build you a custom bolt gun if you want to do long range stuff more.

If you’re thinking Kriss Vector, let me recommend an alternative. I’ve heard that the Kriss is pretty temperamental and needs lots of tweaking and upkeep.

The B&T APC9 is awesome. Mine has been 100% reliable, easy to take down for cleaning, and is super fun to shoot. It’s good as a pistol and great as an SBR.

$2700 for a SCAR17? There are some terrific AR10s floating around for about $1000 if that's the kind of itch you're trying to scratch.

But they will never be a SCAR. A sportbike may be as fast as a Bugatti Veyron but i know which one id rather have.
