Time to buy a 1911-style .45. I say "-style", because I'm not going to exclude the Sig, or other versions that aren't "true" 1911's. I want a threaded barrel. Spend about $1000. That's pretty much my only requirement. Which one should I get? are you going to buy a threaded barrel separately? The reason I ask is because that sig doesn't have a threaded barrel. If not, Remington (R1 Enhanced) and Kimber (TLE II) make a threaded barrel model just under 1000

You could find a Dan Wesson in that range and add a barrel.

They sell one with a TB: 1911CAR-45-TACOPS-TB

I recently bought a stainless Colt Government in 9mm for under $600 and a Jarvis drop-in barrel for just under $300. Jarvis makes an excellent drop in barrel for 1911's in 45acp too. http://www.jarvis-custom.com/shop/1911-pistol-barrels/

I see. I have a sig max, I like it. The tacops would be a good option imo

I have an older Sig GSR and like it a lot. Kimber used to make good stuff (I’ve got an old Royal II that’s a great gun) but I heard they’re not very good anymore. And you can’t go wrong with a Colt. ETA: I’d jump all over this series 70 if I were in the market: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/707488046Or this Gold Cup: http://www.gunbroker.com/item/705073178Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Generally nice 1911's don't come with a threaded barrel. They are more common on $700 nice-ish 1911's. I second the idea of getting a Dan Wesson and adding a threaded barrel if you choose to.

I've seen Wessons pop up on here for $1k. It definitely tops your budget but might be worth the extra. What have you seen that's got your attention? Just so we know what you're interested in currently.

I concur.

Just so we know what you're interested in currently. I've only seen the 3 that meet the requirements, in the 1st post. Sig, Kimber, and Remington. One thing I decided long ago, is I don't like the target sights. They look like they would snag on everything. They ruin the lines and flow of the rear of the gun. I like the looks of the Kimber, but I'm more interested in quality/reliability/performance. How easy is it to shoot, how well does it shoot. I know there are a million options on the market, and I can spend a ton of money. This is my first 45. Other pistols are .22, 9x18 MKV, 9mm. I figure I can buy a $3000 one later if I really like them. Figured a threaded barrel is a good way to narrow down the options, as I want to be suppressor ready when I finally start buying them instead of guns. Any "extra" money I'd like to spend on a case of ammo, so I can shoot the thing.

I paid $300 for my Norinco and it's an outstanding 1911. Or get one of the Armscor brands like Rock Island. If you're not looking for the "ooh, ahh" from everyone else a Rock Island will treat you well.

I am surprised nobody mentioned Springfield. I really like my Range Officer. A set of night sights and good to go. I also have a Remington LW Commander i was pleasently surprised by, it's a nice entry level in the 600 range.
