So I have a bunch of gen 2 & gen 3 Pmags... For some reason every time I see them on sale for a great price I buy 10 more. I have unopened boxes of Pmags.
So my son just got his 1st AR and I'm looking for Mag advice. Personally I have never had an issue (FTF/FTE) with Pmags
but that is the only mag I have ever purchased.
What about Troy? Any good? Primary Arms has them for 5.99 each and the kid thinking was thinking of getting 10 of them but if they cause issues I'll suggest he go with pmags
Thoughts?

Your son doesn't need to buy mags; his pops has boat-loads!

Really, p-mags have been so cheap, what is the incentive to take a risk on the others?

Laughing but what's mine is mine - he can buy his own. You make a valid point, pmags have been reliable

Nothing wrong with the standard aluminums and latest followers. I think they also handle extreme temperatures better than the pmags because they don't have plastic feed lips.

GI mags.
Henderson defense/battlefield Vegas is pretty much the authority on usage/reliability judging by rounds fired, so I'll believe them.

My favorite are Lancer Advanced Warfighter mags. They have metal feed lips which seem to be stronger than the plastic Pmag lips.

You won’t find a better price than at Pegasus Defense.

I never really like GI mags, that clanging metal body bugs me but they seem to work.

I've had trouble with Troy mags if you leave them loaded. The feed lips start to bow out and the back of the mag body has cracked on a few of mine.

Hexmags are fine but I think the polymer feels chinsy.

I have a couple Amend2 mags that have functioned well but the injection molding is cheap and has sharp uneven edges.

For some reason Pmags are just the best. They always feed, never break, always can be found for reasonable prices, are lightweight, etc. My favorite by far. I just can't see any reason to buy anything else.

Lancers are the best. I haven't tried the 25rd L7's yet but I love my 20's

I like cheap. If I can find tan follower metal gi mags. I'm all over 'em. Dude a while back on here was selling them for like $5 a pop. I think I bought 20. Could use more.

Other than that... pmag's

I've never had any issues with pmags, Troy mags, lancers or quality GI mags.

I'd buy mostly pmags since they're "best bang for buck". I really like lancers but can't justify the premium over pmags.

When palmetto had their gi mags with magpul followers I bought plenty too. I just don't like the metal mags for some reason

PMAGs.

E-Lander steel mags. Heavy but bank vault solid.

GI with Magpul followers and Wolff mag springs.

In that order. I had some Hexmags but never put them through their paces. Never messed with Troy or Lancer mags. I'll shoot single shots before I mess with ProMag's stuff. Thermolds are designed to be thrown away on the battlefield, and the cost/price of other polymer mags have closed the gap to where you'd never consider them unless they were a buck a piece.

I was just thinking of that deal. I bought 50. I should have bought more.

I use pmags mainly because I like 10 and 20 rounders for the bench and that’s what’s easy to find. Stay away from Thermolds and you will be fine.
