I'm thinking that I have a few choices.
1. Leave her alone to keep practicing.
2. Buy a stock with and adjustable cheek rest.
3. Buy a lower set of rings.

Anything else I should be considering?

If she leans forward more and gets her cheek up closer to the receiver, does that help?

A lot of new shooters have a tendency to pull back, like she is doing in the photo, and I think that hurts.

In fact, I'm skeptical that she's getting a full field of view through the scope with that stance....

A riser accessory of some type might fix the problem, but there is definitely room there for significantly lower rings. That's probably the route that I would go, unless there's concern that the rifle would then be unusable for yourself.

i agree...what is the eye relief on that scope?

These work with CTR/MOE stocks. I probably have an old black MOE mil spec stock sitting around that you could have if you decide to go this route.

Nose to charging handle!?

Dumn question but is she trying to use her left eye? It kinda looks like it.... she may be left eye dominant??
Also on an AR Line of sight is 2.5" above line of bore, you need EXTRA high rings to get the LOS to LOB correct. My buddy had these same problems with his .458 socom couldn't figure it out, argued up down & sideways until i let him look through a couple of heavy barreled ARs i own with the extra high rings....

Are you talking about height over bore (HOB), or distance between the center of the barrel and center of the optic? I don't believe that there is any universally accepted standard for the HOB on an AR-15 running an optic. The 2.5" figure you gave is in the ballpark of the height of a standard carry-handle mounted rear iron sight, but that in no way dictates accuracy when using an optic. We zero the optic/weapon/cartridge to a specified distance so that the ballistic trajectory of the bullet intersects the aim point of the optic at the desired distance. This happens regardless of whether the HOB is 1" or 6". For AR-15s, people have traditionally used higher rings for several reasons: because they were required to get the objective lens of the optic to clear the forward hand guard, or they wanted to mount a BUIS under the ocular lens or co-witness the optic with the iron sights, or traditional rings didn't allow enough fore/aft adjustment on the flat top receiver to provide sufficient eye relief. In the picture above, there is definitely room for the objective lens to come down, and if she's struggling to get a good cheek weld (assuming she's using the appropriate eye) there's no reason the scope shouldn't be lowered, unless of course its all a matter of shooting position, as others have mentioned. As to whether traditional rings would allow proper eye relief and still fit on the flat top of the receiver, I can't say.

I had a cheek weld problem with an M-14 stock.
Took a piece of pipe insulation from Home Depot, ran two pieces of electrical tape around it to hold it in place and put a (clean) sock over it.
Worked pretty well.

Worth a try to determine the amount of rise she needs and see if it helps.

Using a dirty sock will keep most people from asking to borrow your M-14 at the range.

Only if you don't intend to use the charging handle.

Those work great on AK stocks; not so much on AR15 unless it's a side charge setup.
