Starting to line up parts for my build. Cant decide on a barrel. The upper on it is currently a DD 16" true pencil barrel so im thinking something along the same tier. Looking at DD 10.3, BCM 11.5 HF or their Enhanced lightweight, Maybe a WC 11.3. Others that i may be forgetting? What say you guys?

Curious about the shorter barrels twist rate. Is there some sort of guide for twist vs length?

Do you already have an approved Form 1? What barrel length do you have on there?

Have/had a DD 10.3" 7-Twist. It shot 3" groups at 100yds with a red dot and 55gr Z-Max. I also have a 8" Ballistic Advantage 7-Twist that shoots equally well. My next one will be a 10.3" Ballistic Advantage barrel. Shoots just as well and save a little coin.

Guess i should have clarified in my first post. I have 2 approved forms...1 with 10.5 and 1 with 11.5. I was just planning on building 1 right now. They are essentially identical minus the serial number, trigger and one doesnt have an upper yet. The upper thats on the one is going to my father in law, so i will be putting whatever barrel i get on the corresponding lower. I just tend to prefer the one serial over the other since it was handpicked

I saw that early and that's why I asked. If you read it again, they are only taking the bullets measurement, not the length of the barrel. You're saying two full rotations or more per whatever the length of the barrel is? Or am I out in left field on all this?

You're saying two full rotations or more per whatever the length of the barrel is? Or am I out in left field on all this? The way I read it is 2 full bullet rotations before exiting muzzle. Example would be: 5.56 1-7 twist would be 14 inch barrel or .308 1-10 twist would be a 20 inch barrel

That's how I understood him. so-o-o for a 1:7 twist a 14" or greater barrel is optimum?
Therefore, you're never going to get a good spin on a .223 or 5.56 out of a 10" or smaller barrel. Thus the underperformance cited.
