So I inherited some neat stuff from my uncle who recently passed away and one thing is this cap and ball Colt Navy repro in .36 made by Pietta. I've loked up serial numbers and tried looking up old catalogs, but no luck beyond a manufacture year of 2007. There's a lot of variations, but I'd like to know which one this is. Uncle Reed had some really nice stuff, and I'm curious about this one because I can't find it easily. Note the round barrel(not octagon) and blued steel trigger guard. I was thinking the London model, but it still has an octagon barrel.

Yes, I know it's loaded and ready to go. I just loaded it myself and I'm about to take it and a few other out for some play time :D

My blue book doesn't cover Pietta BP except for the 1873 SAA's.

It would be in the blue book of black powder firearms if anyone has that one

Looks to be a replica of an 1862 Colt Pocket Police 4/2" barrel, but it has a black finish trigger guard, and .36 cal unfluted cylinder.
Navy models were slab side, yours has the newer Army/Police smooth barrel breach.
Italian percussion gun makers made some bizarre non historically correct configurations based on what they had lying around.

Looks a lot like the Pietta 1860 'Police-Sheriff' model but that was in .44 and had a 5 1/2" barrel.

I checked their historical web pages.
2008, only .36 cal Navy they made were 7 1/2 or 5" barrel slab sides.
2008 all the pocket models were in .31 caliber.

Send them an email.
Europeons are pretty good about serial numbers.

Found it! Pietta calls it the 1861 sheriff's model. I do like the lack of brass, and although I've always had Remmies, I really like how this one feels in my hand and it shoots off hand very well. It's even set up to add a shoulder stock if desired. Man, he collected some neat ones.

Yeah, that's a nice-looking pistol.

How did it shoot?

It shoots great! 20grn of 3f under a .375 ball is serviceable accurate at 20 feet. Some fine tuning and I know I can get it much better. It really handles nice. The balance is great. I also got a .36 remington 1858 (pietta) It shoots dead on at 20 feet with the same load. They are a real joy. He left me them and a Pedersoli Kodiak express in .58x.58

Good to hear. I have a .36 revolver too, a reproduction of a Whitney, but I've yet to shoot it ... even though I have all of the supplies to do so.

So shameful.

:peep:
