A co-worker of mine was telling me that in WA state you can't hunt with a semi-automatic rifle and that it must be single shot action. Is that really true? I tried to search but I couldn't find anything mentioning that restriction.

That's about as PC as i can get. - Spoiler: show

Used to be a mag restriction on big game hunting but now there isn't. Just use a .25 ACP semi auto handgun with a long barrel and extended mag, legal for moose, bear, deer, and elk.
(It's pretty obvious the staffers who write these laws and regulations don't hunt).

I tried to search but I couldn't find anything mentioning that restriction. Only during Muzzle Loader season. During modern firearm season, there is no restriction on semi auto rifles, or detachable magazines of any size for hunting large or small game. The exception is bird hunting. Most bird hunting only allows a 3 round maximum capacity shotgun.

(It's pretty obvious the staffers who write these laws and regulations don't hunt). C'mon, a Phoenix Arms .25ACP with a 4" barrel is the PERFECT hunting gun!

Must be 24 caliber or larger for big game. If the moons have aligned you can hunt Coyote with .223. Weight of the bullet is not specified. And let your coworker know that many of us are feasting on our harvest taken with semi-auto firearms. If you'd like to know more and read it for yourself, the hunting regulations are available for free at many outdoor supply stores and can be downloaded for free. http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/

This year I will be hunting with my AR 300 BO, and suppressor. You can use any size mag, the F&W guys said I could even use my 100 round mag (if I was that stupid to carry it).

Well seeing the MSM pretty much defines everything but bolt action a full auto then I can understand his confusion. From the hunter ED page St of WA. https://www.hunter-ed.com/washington/st ... 700046649/All rifles must have a minimum barrel length of 16 inches. Individuals wishing to buy a rifle from a licensed firearms dealer must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Minors under 18 years of age may possess a firearm if they are in attendance at a hunter safety course, are hunting or trapping under a valid license, or meet one of the other exceptions provided by law. Rifles used to hunt big game should be sufficiently powerful for the game being hunted. Centerfire rifles used to hunt big game (except cougar) in Washington must be a minimum of .24. All fully automatic firearms are illegal for hunting.

Should be. Doesn't say they have to be.

Yeah, I figured he was off his rocker. He was trying to convince me he had called and talk to someone and they confirmed it. I'm betting there was some big miscommunication happening either in his asking or maybe some ignorance on the part of the person answering. I wonder if he said auto-loading or something like that and the person took that to be fully automatic.
