Probably was the same trooper who arrested my uncle's friend at gunpoint for having his concealed pistol in his driver door pocket and not on his person. Sheriff told an acquaintance that he couldn't have a loaded pistol in the car with a CPL. John Snaza (Thurston Sheriff) had to come out to correct him. Some of us that want to make sure that we are on the right side of the law are more knowledgeable than the popo.

Had a WA game warden tell us that if we didn't have a CWP, any (unloaded) handguns concealed in the car could be seized and we could be arrested. They used to pull that shit around the N Bend logging roads back in the early 90's.

In WA we have: CPL= Concealed Pistol Licence (new style) LCCP= License to Carry Concealed Pistol (older style) Our permits do not apply to any other weapons. Go back to loading your 30 caliber clips!

Back in the 90's it was called a CWP (in Washington) , Concealed Weapons Permit. It was yellow instead of white. I don't know this for certain, but I was "told" it was changed due to successful defense of people carrying concealed weapons, other than firearms. Sounds legit. Who knows. I kept all of my old licenses, pull that yellow one out every once in a while. Brings back memories.

Lived in Bellevue, still had to go to downtown Seattle to get it.

Yep, the old yellow ones. Ended sometime in the 90's and when those expired you got a new white one. Something to do with carrying other weapons and also bypassed a Brady Bill waiting period.
Edit: Now a WA CPL qualifies as a NICS bypass, but RCW requires it.

I wonder if I have any of my old CWPs floating around here. I know I had to go to the sheriff's office at the Everett courthouse to get them back then, but I seem to recall they were a very light green. Maybe they were yellow and my memory is just bad.

I think it's funny that AR/AK pistols are just that: PISTOLS and can be lawfully carried and concealed in Washington with a CPL....

I wish .223 would fly for big game here but I just don't know if it will ever happen. I've considered picking up a 16" Grendel upper just for WA hunting. If you are trying to center your hunting around an AR-15 in .223/5.56 for "Big Game" then you have a lot to learn about hunting. Modern .223 loads are quite capable of taking larger game like mule deer. Not uncommon to use one in areas of Montana I hunt in where it's perfectly legal to do. I do have more appropriate rifles and it would not be my first choice but the "poodle shooter" stuff is irrelevant and outdated
