17" ar15, can it be done?

I have a special project with one of my upper/lower combos and I'm wanting to get it to 17" on the dot, oal. Is this possible?
I've got a line on a buffer tube that's 2.2", but that's not where my problem is. I've been looking for a forward mitigation muzzle device that's under 1" to make the length. Any ideas? 2.2" buffer side, 7" reciever, 7.5" barrel I don't know if I can get any shorter on the barrel without sacrificing reliability Thanks for any help! 1" brake? The shortest I know of is the ALG SCB which is just over 1.5".

Why use one?
