Ok so I just watched the Classic Arnold Film "Commando" tonight (I honestly forgot how dumb it was) and I saw a Handgun in the movie that peaked my interest so with a little help from the Internet Movie Firearms Database I found out it was an ASP 9 which I have never heard of or seen until tonight, so with a little more internet searching/reading I saw the guy who designed was a very innovative Holster Maker who came up with some pretty covert firearms in the late 60's.

The ASP 9 was a heavily modified S&W M39.

Here is a good read on this really neat firearm.

Interesting, though it doesnt sound like he made many himself, and then the guy he licensed it to in Wisconsin, "ASP, made/converted about 3000 or so of the gun with less quality control than Theodore..."

Probably more reliable single stacks now, but back then, pretty unique....

It has a cult following. It was also featured in a few video games. Interesting link, thanks

Other than the clear grip panels/magazines, there are about 100 designs now that fill this niche. Back in the 1970s, not so much. Subcompact 9x19s weren't really a thing.
