I have a couple of types of steel target holders, but they all have one problem in common: They hang too low for me to comfortably use at Cascade, where I want the target to be up higher to make sure I don't hit the "deck" (level ground). I like to use steel targets for simple blasting with older rifles, since I find that fun . . . and shooting at paper targets at 100-200 yards with an old milsurp and iron sights just isn't that enjoyable for me. I received a package in the mail today from jcvibby at JC Steel Targets, and then of course I paid a visit to Home Depot for a cheap 2x4. Here's my new target, with a gratuitous selfie thrown in so you can judge the height (I'm 5'9"). I cut the 2x4 to about 5' 6" long. That's an 8" round target. So far I'm happy with it. Now I just need to get out and try it....

Yes, everything that you see except the 2x4 came from JC.

Looks like about two dozen spam cans in wood, or naked.
Meh, just barely enough for the first zombie apocalypse weekend open range session.
