All right . . . range report for PMB's bullet deflector!

SAGELA and I launched a bunch of 7.65 Argentine and .30-06 (from Garands and a 1903) at the steel target today from 200 yards. A few of the 7.65 Argentine hit the deflector and dented it but didn't penetrate.

But the .30-06 was a bit tougher to withstand....

So yeah, it definitely helps to protect the 2x4 but it's not invincible. The welds on the back seem to be holding up just fine. thumbsup

Haha, first time reading through this thread and I vote most entertaining in 2017.

Did you have to get special approval to use it at Cascade? Or is that just for the pistol range?

You need special approval for any targets that will be used at 40 meters or closer, regardless of whether it's for the rifle or pistol range.

Update time...

I'm still very happy with this target, but I recently discovered that the spring was, well, sprung:

Image

See how the spring is kind of crushed and doesn't fill the full gap anymore?

So I did some measuring and bought a 10-pack of springs from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KVAPRM/

And they seem to work fine:

Here are the new springs alongside the old, battered one:

I don't know why spring did that. I guess there's something about getting repeatedly hit with .30-06 and the like. However, I have nine spares now, so we'll see how it goes.

In hindsight, I would have bought a slightly longer spring, maybe 1.5", but I think these will be okay.

By the way, sorry about the weird blur in those first two pics. I used "Portrait" mode on the iPhone to blur the background, and it did some odd things with the target.

Maybe try valve springs?
