I won't get into the make and model of the gun but it was a hand gun stolen in 2003. So Kent PD calls me on 4/13 and leaves me a message saying my gun was recovered and ready for pickup.
So I called the number they left and set up an appointment for the next day. I tried to get some info on how where and who it was recovered from but all she could or was allowed to tell me is that they ran in through and entered it into the ballistic data base just to make sure it didn't match up to any crime.
She was also able to tell me it was recovered by Seattle PD in 2008. So I said it took 9 years to go through the system to get it back to me???? She said "yeah the system is pretty sideways" Better late than never though. I ordered all new internals and cleaned and inspected it and its in almost new condition.
I know we have some members here who have had their whole safes stolen. My only advice is to keep signing those papers from the police agency it was registered stolen with confirming it was still stolen and mailing it back.

In the early 90's we sold SPD a $10,000 HD for one of their mainframes. 5 years later I got a call that they wanted to return it because they didn't need it anymore.
Turns out we shipped it to them, and somehow it was booked in as evidence; they only found it years later by accident. Probably all kinds of stuff sitting in their evidence rooms.

It was new in box, just missing. I drove down there and told them was no fucking way we would take it back. Depreciation on computer components is so fast, after 5 years it's scrap. Plus by that point they had already went to another system. Selador wrote: dreadi wrote: Perhaps I'll get my guns back in 2029. Never know what's going on behind the scenes................ Lynnwood's CID commander was sent to prison a few years ago for stealing guns, drugs, and cash from evidence. "Hey guys, I'll book that in for you" and took it home. Also claimed to have found owners of found property and kept that too.

I had a SW 342 stolen out of my jeep on Ft. Lewis in 2005. It was unregistered on post, but I reported it stolen to the MP's anyways. They INSISTED I come down to the MP station, and my 1st Sgt. said, "If you want to get arrested, then go. If not, they'll have to come here. But they're MP's, so they won't come here. It's up to you." And they never came and got me. In 2006 the gun was found on some turd named Alonzo King peeing on the King County courthouse. A King Co. cop followed him back to his car and watched Alonzo smoke some crack with a hooker, then arrested him. (or so I was told by the detective who emailed me, I was in Iraq) They ran the serial and found out it was mine, but it hadn't been reported stolen. The MP's said they would report it, but didn't. When I got back from Iraq, I called King Co. and they said Seattle had it, and when I called Seattle, they said King Co. had it.

They used to auction stuff through JG Murphy. They had a 36 foot steel hull police boat awhile back, but I figured that thing probably needed $50k in repairs. Here's their surplus fleet and equipment site. Not sure about the small stuff site. https://www.seattle.gov/fleet-managemen ... le-auction
