Hey all. I bit the bullet (no pun) last night and responded to an ad from someone looking for a rifle like mine. I got this SMLE October 31st for what I`d consider a fair price but I want to make sure I`m not getting gyppe`d. What would the masters consider a fair price for a rifle thusly described:
- 1916, Birmingham Small Arms
- Mag Cutoff intact
- No stacking swivel
- 3/4 of the wood is Australian replacements, stamped 1942
- No cleaning kit
- Bore exc, sharp lands and grooves with mild frost
- Mag not original, possibly Ishapore 1922
- Round cocking knob
- Stock disc intact, unmarked except a stylized A or F on the interior side
- Butt plate screws mangled
- Believed butt and plate WW1 original
- SS# matching on bolt handle, receiver ring and chamber
- Rear sight marked 78980 under a 7-pointed star. Very tight fit.
- Receiver ring thoroughly coated in stamps and proof marks
- Field strips without issue, have not fired it
- Trigger breaks cleanly
- No import mark I can detect
- No volley sight
