Can you shoot AR style rifles at the Kenmore range? (without membership)

Yes, but only loading one round at a time. Expect some unpleasant glances from the old timers there when you pull it out.

Haha, okay. That's actually fine; I just want to get the experience of shooting it. We've owned it since October or so and I haven't had the chance yet.

Ever want to come out to Snohomish/Lake stevens area I can meet you at my dads place for some ringing steel. As far as Kenmore, I know they allow my buddies Scar 17.

Honestly, for an AR, one round at a time is not much of an experience. I'd continue your search for a more friendly location. It's better than nothing, but not worth the $$ spent or experience gained. IMHO.

Come down to Evergreen Anna. One round at a time? I would rather poke my eyes with a pencil. We can have a breakfast meetup at Farmboy, and convoy to ESC. (exit 95 I-5)

Annalee,

My wife and I shoot most Sunday afternoons @ Shooting Sports Northwest in Bothell. It is an indoor range, so distances are limited. We shoot handguns, but they do have a rifle bay and if you are interested in just getting a chance to shoot your rifle it will do fine.

PM if interested and I can provide more details.

The idea of single shot at Kenmore is safety first and focusing more on accuracy rather than just hosing a target.

Kenmore is one of the few remaining ranges of it's kind located in the midst of urban development. One round that makes it's way into a surrounding neighborhood will turn the place into a putt-putt golf course.

FWIW, if you want to shoot AR's with loaded magazines, join the CMP and shoot regular matches there at Kenmore. You can also practice with loaded Magazines if you have your CMP card. Just shoot in the Modern Military class.

For those who like to just hose targets, there are a few remaining gravel pits that haven't been shut down yet due to safety and trash issues.

Ownership of an AR does not a target hoser make.

Personal weapons are what raised mankind out of the mud, and the rifle is the queen of personal weapons. The possession of a good rifle, as well as the skill to use it well, truly makes a man the monarch of all he surveys. It realizes the ancient dream of the Jovian thunderbolt, and as such it is the embodiment of personal power. For this reason it exercises a curious influence over the minds of most men, and in its best examples it constitutes an object of affection unmatched by any other inanimate object.

When I read about that range, I can pretty much guarantee it's a bunch of old crotchety guys, with their single shot rifles that hate young people with their newfangled "assault rifles". Worse than any range in CA I've ever been to, and I lived there for 28 years. In the heartland of gun bans, I've never seen one single range that limited to 1 in the gun (or limited your mag capacity in any way), and 3 seconds between shots is absurd. I'd never give a place like that my money. Seems like a pretty anti-gun mentality to me. The type of guys (typically shotgun shooters) who don't help fight magazine and assault weapon bans because "well I don't shoot those and I don't see why anyone else would", but still claim to be pro-gun because they shoot trap and hunt ducks.

Disgusting. OP, go elsewhere. Even if it costs more. Even if you have to drive further

If that's your view you would be wrong.

I shot there yesterday with a bunch of people who's ages ranged from around mine all the way down to early 20's. Even some of us "old farts" had their nasty 'Black Rifles" there. The "mix" yesterday was dads with kids with .22's, a shooter with a pimped out M-14 (marine corps theme) suppressed, several with old military bolt actions, an AK-47, several AR-15's, and several "customs" like mine. All had a lot of fun shooting both targets and "the bull". Yeah, there are a few crotchety old butt holes around but then again there are a bunch of smart-assed kids that need some lessons in gun safety that show up.

Like I said, the Kenmore Range is not way out in the Country. It's an 84 acre range that has had houses grow up all around it, some of which are less than 200 yards from the Shotgun Range. Every effort is made to keep the range safe, not just for the shooters, but for the surrounding homes as well. If you recall, Machias range was closed for some time due to a bullet "escaping" the range. Same happened to the Seattle Police Range.

The rules are there, not just because the Club Directors are on a power trip, each and every one has been written because of an incident that has occurred prior to it's being instituted. Kenmore may not meet some peoples "standards" but they do have several awards for running a safe range.

Why does the same "logic" not apply to pistols? Dipshit rules.

The only thing good at the Kenmore range is their shotgun trap and sporting clays. No other reason to go there with the screwy rifle range rules.

Funny thing is that Interlake is in a similarly populated area. But there's no RO on duty and you can shoot with full magazines there.

Interlake is a private club. Send one off the range and you're more than likely lose your membership and quite possibly close down the range. Now add a new shooter or a bunch of yahoos to the mix and you have a higher risk. This happened to Seattle Rifle & Pistol only a few years back. BTW Interlake's “Person In Charge” sure sounds like an RO (non-certified) with only 3hrs of training.

I'm a member of Kenmore and Seattle Rifle & Pistol. Kenmore is a single-load range but you can ask for a "function" check and load more than one round. As stated by DeadShot, you could attend a match to get around the rule as well. Seattle Rifle & Pistol is a private range same as Interlake and the only rule is 2-seconds between shots.

I for one would not like to be on a range with some goofball dumping a mag; they probably do this to justify the lousy groups. Having a one-shot limit doesn't stop me from loading several mags and practicing my mag swaps. :bruce:
