Recent article from Shooting Sports USA talks about a new shell that could replace brass, and still be reloadable. https://www.ssusa.org/articles/2017/2/13/goodbye-brass/Quote: Let’s skip the appetizer and get right to the meat and potatoes of a manufacturer’s claims for a new cartridge case technology to replace the 150-year reign of brass. Here’s what Shell Shock Technologies (SST) says about their two-piece, nickel-aluminum-stainless steel 9mm Luger NAS3 cases:
Stronger, cheaper and half the weight of brass. Greater corrosion resistance. More internal volume. More consistent ignition. +P velocities without +P pressures. Cases won’t stretch, no trimming required. Withstands 40 or more reloadings. Picks up with a magnet. Can be anodized different colors for instant ID. That. Is. Awesome. I like how they are magnetic and can be color anodized for easy recognition. Also did you see this part about limited speed variation due to more consistent ignition?
"standard deviations of 0.093 fps and extreme spreads of only 3 fps with 124-grain FMJ bullets and 4.2-grain of Titegroup."
Extreme spread of 3 fps is unbelievable!

Been seeing this posted on many sites. I am mainly amazed that these are lower cost than brass.

This makes me horny.
No trimming. Magnetic. Anodizing for color.
Holy shit.
Create standardized colors per caliber, red for 9mm, green for .45 and of course pink for .40. Repeat similar pattern for rifle rounds.
Sorting made easy. Pick up made easy.
Every year we hear about a new "game changer"
This might actually be one.

Meh brass isn't going anywhere.
The cons already have me not even interested. That and cost. I can pick up 1k once fired 9mm for ~40 bucks. Which is going to be a lot cheaper than buying these new. Then add in needing to lube, use proprietary dies, and the fact if you mess up and pull the bullet the case is worthless.
Be interesting to see actual real world testing and not just the info from the company. Kind of reminds me of the G2 RIP ammo and how the company made it out to be amazing and the best thing ever.

Well, yes and no. There are hundreds of "revolutionary" hollow points on the market. Very few case options. This might suck, or could be awesome

I think that that the material is cheaper most definitely, but since this is new they have to see a higher cost in manufacturing and R&D which I don't think they are telling us about of course. So I would also think they would be more expensive at first.

Policing brass at the end of a shooting session is just about Rita's favorite part of the whole deal.

At my age I can't count the number of "revolutionary, game changing, fantastic, products have been introduced to the shooting world. Some are actual hits and some are mere "fizzles". Remember the electric primers that were supposed to render regular primers obsolete? How about polymer cases? What about just plain aluminum cases? Then there's the on again, off again, back again, caseless ammo.
Me? I have enough brass in all calibers I own to reload for the rest of my life. I'll let the rest be the guinea pigs.

I love innovation... Love it! Magnetic, less able to be corroded - I am with the majority in looking forward to seeing how it turns out, and also with Mike Deadshot in waiting before purchasing. One concern that I will have for the rest of my life on any innovation is "How would this change/improvement make it easier for gun control crazies to interrupt the supply chain?"
