What would you say if you ordered a brand new Smith & Wesson 686 from your dealer and upon opening the box, you were met with this? My distributor tried telling me it came from S&W in this condition. And the cost is only $732.25 + tax...

If you took it home than tough shit. if you refused it than good job. get another one
S&W is hit and miss on their QC. but should work with you.
might be time to get a new dealer.
always check your firearm before filling out paperwork.

Agreed, I have heard that S&W quality is not what it used to be. Of course, it is going back to the distributor. Some would say "just clean it up and keep it".

What appears to be the issue? The only thing I see is a notable cylinder turn mark indicating it was finger f'd a bit before you got it.

I had to downsize the photos a bit and so some of the detail is lost: Top photo- Trigger discoloration, trigger guard tag ripped off and stuck on the foam liner. 2nd photo: burn marks of two cylinders, indicating it was fired far more than one cylinder worth of ammo. 3rd Photo: The turn line on the cylinder and residue creeping between the side plate parting surface. 4th Photo: Powder residue in the crane and barrel area.
Looks like it was fired a bunch and then just tossed in the case. I suspect it was a demo, although the distributor denies it.
I guess I am a picky SOB

The trigger and hammer are mim and then case hardened which gives it that appearance.
The revolver may have had to been fired more than once due to issues found during qc, but honestly, it looks like only 2 rounds were fired to me.

I'd so don't send me dirty, used shit for $700. That's more wear and tear than I'd pay money for if it was in the display case, good product or not. So for 7 bills ya can't pay some chuckle head to clean the shit up before it's sent out????? Doesnt sound like they are taking much pride in thier product, I'd be leary to find out later where else they cut a cheap corner
Good thing I don't care for wheel guns especially if that's the standard......
