I was going to get one for her but now ...
Sent from my SM-G360V using Tapatalk Relax man. The failures seem to occur with very high round count guns prior to the design change they incorporated. I will still have my wife and son shooting P22's, but I will add the O ring mod mentioned earlier in the thread. Would I buy another? No, but I am not afraid of the ones I have either. GSG 1911 .22 That's a good inexpensive option.

I shipped my slide back to Walther on the July 8th; on July 21st I received a new slide in the mail. They received mine on the 12th and shipped out the new one on the 19th . . . not bad. And . . . I'm back in business! This slide is different than the one I sent in; I know they've changed the design over the years, so it looks like I got the newer version. And yes, I ordered the O-rings and I put one of them in. The slide still seems to function normally, but I haven't taken it to the range yet. I still have a few of the O-rings; if any of you P22 owners want to try one and are coming to the Greenwater cleanup or WSP memorial work party or some other event that I'll be at, let me know and I'd be happy to give you one.

Oh, one more comment....
The P22 comes with three different front sights. They are plastic and just pop into a cutout in the slide. The gun comes with the medium-height sight installed, but a short and a tall sight are shipped with it.
I use the short sight on mine. Before I shipped the slide back, I popped out the sight and kept it . . . which is a good thing, since the new slide shipped with the standard medium sight.
So if this ever happens to you, make sure you keep that sight!

GAWD I felt old when you said "My first gun I bought" and 2008 in the same paragraph. :(
My first was in 1981 as an adult.
