aka 300 BLK is a new rifle caliber based on the .223 REM shortened and necked up to take a .308 caliber bullet.

This fills a few niches - one to keep the same AR platform and two for improved suppressed ballistics (larger slower moving projectile - subsonic rounds of 220 gr bullets).

The AK is 7.62x39 - the 300 BLK is 7.62x35.

As you can see from the chart (below) compared to the 5.56 it's the same case but shorter. So you can use the same AR magazine, same lower. Just need the upper. So for those with AR's you can add another accessory to the inventory.

With the new suppressor law taking effect this July... it's good news for those that plan on shooting with suppressors.

The reason I post this is two fold. I just found out about this "new" cartridge and also about PNW Arms - 1 of 4 manufacturers making this round. PNW Arms is located out of Issaquah, WA http://www.pnwarms.com/Default.aspx

I like to support local companies. I just met the President Charles Liptaak from PNW Arms at the range today. Nice guy. Maybe I can talk to him about lending me a few rounds to test and have folks try out. Range 15 anyone? viewtopic.php?f=60&t=536

Here's a good picture to compare the 5.56 (.223 REM) to a 300 BLK with 220 gr subsonic and 123 gr supersonic bullet.

I found an oddball piece of brass at RFGC today . . . and guess what? It's a 300 AAC Blackout!

*tosses into random brass collection bag*
