OK, I built my awesome budget AR ($550). If I were to upgrade it, which trigger should I get? (Remember I'm cheap, and hate AR's)

It's a budget blaster? Leave it alone, that's my vote.
Oh wait, this discussion is probably going to go the way of the thread on the miracle barrel compound, lol....

If you look around you can get a CMC Trigger for around 160$ and they are absolutely as good as a the other options you listed or better IMO.

Leave it alone and break it in naturally.

Oh wait, this discussion is probably going to go the way of the thread on the miracle barrel compound, lol.... Dude... if you are truly cheap... this is a "no-brainer" Leave it alone. Don't put a $200 trigger in a $600 gun. That's like putting a $200+ rifle scope on a basic 10/22...

That's why the "other" option was included.

I had my local gunsmith microslick the Stag milspec hammer I got with my Stag lpk. It feels as every bit as good as an ALG ACT trigger now. Smooth and crisp after a few hundred break in rounds. Cost me $5 for the coating. Best cheap trigger upgrade ever.

If your cheap leave it alone, if you have to have a nice trigger for cheap you can get the CMC trigger for about 160 instead of 200 if you shop around online.

i disagree with everyone so far. i have a ALG ACT trigger and I LOVE IT. huge upgrade over crappy ass triggers from rra or budget lpk's. its only $66. nice and crisp, great feedback and nice 5-6lb break. if you're ever up in my area, i'll let you shoot my rifle.

if your cheap
alg qms or act
could go 2 stage cmmg or RR
if you go cheap on everything else. spending good money on a trigger is funny

I put an SSA in my AR last year.
It's not the trigger you want if you want to duplicate FA with your finger, get a 2-3lb single stage. It's a very smooth slow fire 2 stage trigger. Perfect for my somewhat heavy 20" fluted barrel rifle, YMMV.

I'm also fairly cheap when it comes to triggers, all the ones I've bought have been on sale so you can find them below your listed prices.
Currently I have ACT - 45$ , SSA - $160, CMC 3.5lb single stage flat, $140. Those are in order of heavy to lightest feeling trigger.
If you like the 2 stage, I think the SSA, (and the lighter SSA-E) are really nice. CMC has come out with a 2 stage, haven't tried that one yet. For a light 1 stage pull, the CMC flat trigger is very smooth/clean brake. I have used the ACT the most, moving it around to different ARs, nice trigger, smooth, but heavier than the other two. It all comes down to what you want to do with the rifle.
Rainier Arms has most of them set up to test out in their showroom.

I too love the POF. And yes you can sometimes score it for $150 but for a low cost beater I would polish the contact surfaces and lube it up. You will be surprised that the grit be gone.

ALG triggers are all that is needed imho. And for $45 - $65... not a major cost upgrade.
