A friend contacted me seeking "gun violence statistics." It seems he's been in a discussion with someone who read an article stating that you are more likely to die from a bullet than from a vehicle accident. To help him out. I gleaned these statistics from our CDC.

IIRC suicide outpaced homicide when talking firearms and these nut jobs at the CDC think they are the same thing.

I think you're referring to the FBI UCR on firearm-related deaths. The stat is often misrepresented by the antis as being 30,000 deaths annually to gun violence when the truth is that 2/3 of those deaths are suicides. We can debate whether or not suicide qualifies as violence, but I think it's indisputable that the antis' motive is to suggest that gun homicide is a much larger problem than it really is.

And they feel the cure is to disarm the law abiding citizens that often end up as victims.
An interesting breakdown on the stat's would be how many firearm caused homicides are "criminal on criminal" as compared to "non criminal" on "criminal", even "non criminal" on "non criminal".
My money is on the criminal on criminal homicides being a large percentage of firearm deaths (non suicide related).

I was having so much fun reading the CDC report that I had to make a couple more pie charts. The more causes of accidental death I include, the safer it is to have a gun in the home. ;)
