Hey Guys,
I've decided I want to do a suppressed 'pistol'. I've yet to decide on what cartridge, but I'm kinda leaning towards a 8.6BO.

My main criteria is that it fits/feeds well out of AR10 style magazines and .473" bolt (although, a magnum bolt is now available). I've fore ends for this in 5", 10", and 16" lengths, and those could go the length of just the barrel, or barrel and can.

Which other cartridges should I consider?

Here are the parts I've assembled so far.

300BO suppresses well. You could work up a subsonic .308 load. Hogdon has subsonic .223 data, I tried it...I think my 1:7 and suppressor combo spun it up to fast because they went super, just barely. 458 SOCOM subs are 500gr if you're into that.

I think I want something bigger than the 300BO. I have one of those already on an AR, but I think in a bolt, I want to throw really heavy pills.

And, I don’t think Aero has released a 223 bolt head yet, but maybe they have.

You think any of the 9mmLuger or 45ACP cans could handle a 8.6 BO out of a bolt action?

Maaaaybe an Omega 45K since it can also handle 10MM or maaaaybe a Wolfman. I would have to look at 8.6 BO and compare to some other calibers that current pistol cans are rated for. Or you could get .36 cal rifle can that's made to be lower in weight to comfortably accommodate pistol size work. Something like an Omega 36M or Alaskan 360 comes to mind, maybe even an Omega 46M if you want one to rule them all that also has modularity.

The thunderbeast Fly45 is rated for 8.6BO at 13" of barrel with full power loads.

Rugged told me that an Obsidian 45 can handle subsonic 45 rifle cartridges.

Why not SBR it?

How much did the receiver/action cost?

This set up isn't terribly fancy, but seems like a lot of quality for the money. Aero and Grey Birch are starting to do some collaborations, so they'll probably be a factory offering of these with carbon wrapped barrels soon.
The action is from Aero. If you can't shop, they want $925 for it. I think I paid closer to $600.

The chassis is from Grey Birch. Again, if you can't shop, they want $500 for the basic chassis, but they also sell it in a kit for about $900. I bought the whole kit, as I can use the extra parts on some other Grey Birch stuff I have. I got the kit on a introduction special, again for about $600. I have a few of their 10/22 items, including one of their rifles.

Grey Birch now has this photo on their site. I had started gathering parts before I knew they were teaming up with Aero, or I probably would have just waited. But, I think I like it better than some of the Q stuff, in that there is a lot of modularity in the Aero action, easy to change stuff up down the road. Honestly, it's easier to talk to the GB guys than it is Aero. I want both companies to succeed, but getting to talk to someone at Aero (including my sales rep), has proven difficult most of the time.

Please stop posting cool stuff that I now want. [emoji1787]

I agree with you on Aero and their comms. It's always been lacking in my experience unless it's an employee in for personal business.

So I want to go 375 Raptor over 8.6BO?

(and, I think all these guys are incestuous. The BCA stuff looks like GB stuff, too).

Built one of these back in 2019 using a Pork Sword Chassis and American Rifle Company Nucleus action. Had bolt heads and barrels for 45 Raptor, 300 Blackout, and 223 Rem. Blackout and Rem subs were the quietest, 45 Raptor not so much.

That’s awesome!

Stokes I’ve been hearing good things about the 8.6BO. I imagine the Rugged Alaskan 460 would have no problem with 8.6 regardless of barrel length. 458 socom is another fun one but punishing from a short barrel. I like your plan for the 8.6 personally.

Given your interest in 8.6, this might be informative to you.
