Yeah, that is one downside to the design - not a lot of margin for error. Fortunately, it cost me nothing but time, so it won't be the end of the world if I accidentally destroy it. I'm mostly going to be using it for a scoped .22, so hopefully the misses will be few and the damage will be minimal.

Link to plans? Add a cheap piece of steel to the front with an opening.

I made up the design on the fly. I just saw one example on a Google search, then sorted through my scrap wood to see if I could replicate it. I'll see if I can write up a how-to. But if I had to do it again, I would build it differently. Namely, I would make it lighter and I would make it modular so it would be easy to assemble and disassemble. But since I winged it using random materials on hand, I'm pretty pleased with the finished product.

So is the idea that you shoot the clay on the bottom and a new one drops into place?

Pretty sure that is the idea behind gravity fed. Gravity pulls it down into place. :peep:

Put the scorpion grip on the .50
Seems like it'll work well.

I get that. Just would have thought they would break by dropping that far and banging against each other.

Made a gravity-fed clay target stand out of scrap materials in my shed. I saw the concept in a Google image search and decided to try my hand at it. My first design didn't feed consistently, so I made some adjustments to the feed guides, tested it, then made more adjustments until it worked reliably. The only thing left to do is sand off the rough spots.

I thought that might happen, too, but so far they're all surviving the drop. The gradual taper at the bottom seems to act like a friction brake to slow down the bottom clay, and I think the whole stack remains in contact during the drop, or at least very close to it, so they manage to stay intact. The bottom clay wedges in there really tight, too. It takes 3-4 shots from a BB gun to break the entire thing so the next one will drop.

Today, I continued my DIY target-making binge. I used a staple gun to attach wooden clothespins to some scrap wood boards. Instant clay target holder. The dollar store sells a 36-pack of clothespins for $1.10 with tax. Then I bundled them up with some twine for easy storage and transport. This is about as cheap, fast, and easy as it gets:

Tomorrow, I'll make a hanging target.
