Anybody here shoot PCP air rifles?

Fri Apr 12, 2024 6:31 pm

Picked up a Benjamin Marauder recently, .22 cal. 1,000 FPS, much quieter than my springer guns. The only pain is recharging it until I get my tanks filled.

Hope to get into the bigger bore guns, like the .30 & .35 cal guns in the near future.

No I don't . . . but I'm fascinated by the PCP air rifles! I love this conversation.

I bought an auction storage unit because of what I saw and ended up with a fair amount of kit for PCP's, including the .22 cal Benjamin, a hand pump, some SCBA tanks, about 3,000 pellets, valves/regulators/hoses, and related gear.

If you thought AR's were a rabbit hole, this is a whole nother Alice in Wonderland trip down the hole. Drinking information from a firehose has been my life since Tuesday when I opened the door to the unit.

Most PCP's are "moderated", with built in suppressors, so they are much quieter than CO2 and spring guns. I have to say that the baffles are pretty cheap, with most made of either plastic or thin aluminum cups without the usual "mouseholes" in powder burners. They don't have to deal with the burning powder, fouling, or heat that happens in regular firearms so they don't have to be built as strong.

It isn't uncommon to spend in excess of $1,000 on a quality PCP rifle. I looked up the cost of a valve I found in the unit, and it was $470. There were 3 of them in there. A lot of the market is driven by the Britts who for the most part cannot own firearms without horrendous expense, so they buy the PCP guns limited to 12 Ft/Lbs of energy.

Yes I’ve been down the rabbit hole. I got into air rifles to manage a rodent problem.
Now I got that problem under control and don’t shoot anymore. I have a thread over in WaGuts section.
My go to PCP is the Benjamin Prod turned into a carbine. I also have a Zbroia Kozak FC in .22 cal. But it no longer holds air and I need to make some long reach snap ring pliers to get it apart. For air I have a Hatsan spark. Is nice but a you can’t run it that long.

Cool. Does that Marauder pistol take the 8 round mags? I have one in the gear I got, so if you want I'll just send it to you.

Yes it does. I appreciate your offer.
No need to send it but if you are ever passing through the Kent area I could meet up with you.

I've been thinking about it, NV scope, have a rat safari up in pioneer square. Ghillie suit made out of garbage bags and tarps. Target rich environment.

Rabbit hole and dollar signs is right. I dropped by a local airsoft arena and shop to look around at pcp's. They're quite elaborate and the cost is every bit that of a real gun. I considered which guns I'd have to sell to get into the sport, but it may be too rich for me to enter the game.

Still, I thought it very interesting and appealing.
