So FedEx just dropped off my 629 a few minutes ago. Somehow S&W managed to fuck it up even worse.
They fixed the little chip where the side plate meets the frame by the hammer. Then they 'refinished the gun' It looks like it was polished by a mechanic at a gas station who's using one of their red rags that had been sweeping the floor from before I was born. I expected the little nick would require the slightest hit with a stone or file and call it good. Instead it lead to an entire rebuff of the gun, by the mechanic at the gas station who's using a red rag that had been sweeping the floor from before I was born.
Then somehow they canted the barrel. I don't know why they even touched the barrel. All the work needed to be done at the rear of the gun, the nick and replacing the rear sight. How this involves the barrel and it's position I do not know. The rear sights leans to the left and now the front sight leans to the right.
The kicker? Rear sight is untouched.

It looks like it was scrubbed with a brown or grey Scotch Brite pad, (very fine & ultra fine respectively).

That is just ridiculous.
I mean, I guess I'd put that bitch in a vise and right the barrel, but I can't believe they're fucking up to this level.
Shit, I'd want them to just give me a different gun, or the cash value of the thing.
It's like they're actually making it worse every time it gets sent in.

Thank you for the reminder to never sell my pre-lock, or let S&W touch it.

If I owned that, that'd be all the excuse I'd need to make it a 3" with unfitted cylinder. Maybe even round butt it if its not already. A fixed rear sight and some boot grips and it'd be a dandy.

Hell, I'd take my chances with a Taurus at this point.

In their defense, this is the state of MFG in the US. Why stand infront of a buffing wheel all day for $2O an hr when you can work at mcd's for more, they give you a free lunch, smoke weed on breaks and you get to hit on girls when they come in..... They are probably doing everything they can to hire the lowest of the low, just to keep production rolling at any reasonable cost.
Quality cant keep up with runaway inflation.
