Chris Bort—the acting chief of the ATF’s Firearms Ammunition Technology Division—struggled at disassembling a Glock style handgun during a made-for-tv scaremongering interview with Steven Dettelbach, the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms on CBS News.

Here’s a few simple steps that an experienced agent have to know:

1. Eject the magazine
2. Pull back the slide
3.Check that the chamber and magazine well are empty by looking down through the ejection port on the top (where the shell casings fly out)
4.Aim it in a safe direction and pull the trigger while you have your thumb in the magazine well
5. Pull back the slide around 1 cm / 4/10ths of an inch
6. Pull down the two latches above and slightly in front of the trigger
7. Pull the slide forward
8. Compress and remove the spring
9. Slide out the barrel

But then again maybe his experience is more in alcohol and tobacco instead.

I saw that on another board and had to shake my head when he pulled the trigger, Yeah I know that’s Glocks way of removing the slide.
I don’t even think he checked to make sure the chamber was clear.

I see lots of firearms pointed the wrong way in relation to the firing line.

Thumb in magwell? What dumbfuckery is that?

I'm always reminded of the "only one qualified" DEA dufuss that perforated his own self in a classroom years ago...

Gun can still fire in most guns and I'd have to imagine it would be painful if it fired while your thumb was in the magwell.

Why not just properly clear the weapon? Only takes a few seconds to learn how to properly clear a weapon.

I suspect his experience is more in murdering women/children/pets and rump-rangering little boys.

Also I was always taught that you confirm empty chamber by both sight AND FEEL. Cram that fingertip in there to the extent you can (admittedly, that's "pad of pinky" at best on a .22LR) and make sure you can feel that there's empty space where the bullet goes.

I won't shoot you I'll just clear my weapon with the same expertise as one of the ATF heads takes down a Glock.

Mag in, check.
Pull back slide, check.
Let slide go forward, check.
Aim at surevaliance's foot and pull trigger, boom.
