Honestly, it's not that big a deal. Put back on the brace, and you can do all those things. Or just add a 16.5" upper. It's not that big a deal.

For me the whole thing should be clear evidence that SBRs are in fact in common usage, and therefore not to be restricted under the NFA.

Per my knowledge, no matter if it’s a stock or a brace, or what’s the BBL - once it’s registered as a [short-barreled] rifle, is forever a rifle.
So, you can’t conceal it loaded, nor treat it like a pistol when you sell it or travel out of state.

You can go from a Pistol to Rifle, but never back to a Pistol if it was registered as a Long gun. It can still be pistol length as an SBR, but stricken from the books it's still a Rifle.

Does "never installed" count? LOL I put a brace on a non-firearm mockup for ergonomic tryout, but never on a live iron. Other than the addition of rear-end weight which improved balance and a convenient spot to stick a spare mag, didn't impress me much.
