I've decided to step up into the 7.62 world of the AR platform, I got a smokin deal on an early Colt LE901 with a bunch of mags, 5.56 adapter and some other goodies.

Now I want to glass it up and am overwhelmed by options.

I don't need IR capabilities or super premium grade glass.

I kinda still like the Duplex style reticle.

My budget is a grand...

This was the topic of conversation recently on TOS. View here: http://seattleguns.net/showthread.php?2 ... -on-scopes

That gentleman ended up getting a Vortex scope of of this site for a great deal.

Another place to look, if you would consider second hand is Sniper's hide.

Gotta consider how you want to use it. Bench shooting? then a higher power with less field of vision would be ok. If you want to track something moving or keep aware of a wider area, then a slightly lower power scope might be better as you get more FOV.

FFP? maybe easier/quicker to range no matter what power your scope is set on, but a SFP scope will probably have a finer reticle to see small targets at really long ranges. Ranging takes place usually at the lowest setting unless you're a math whizzzzzzzzzz.

Should be some good after Christmas sales both from resalers hoping to get rid of last years scopes and from WaGuns members who got new scopes as presents.

There is a Vortex, not a high zoot one, for sale on here now for around $650 IIRC

There are some really good deals on Leupold Mark IV's on the market now as they discontinued that line. Doesn't have zero stops and some other fancier options, but are great scopes (I have one)

Here is a Mark IV 4.5 14 x 40mm. It has a smaller objective than many/most of the optics now. Seems 50mm is de riguer. Won't collect as much light, obviously, but will present a lower profile.

As Sinus noted, I love to masturbate while looking at scopes and shiite liggat.... so this is fun!

Not yet...but I made deal on a TA11J-308 ACOG from a buddy in Georgia this morning.Thinking it should fit my needs pretty well.

Your links overwhelmed me even more!!! Holy shit the options are infinite... icon_eek

I remember when the first Colt 3x20 scopes came out for the platform...they were the top of the line.

Don,
I have an ACOG on my Colt M4 and a few other types of glass (Vortex, etc) on others that you are more than welcomed to try out.
It might cost you that stockpile of M1 carbine parts that I know you are still hoarding:)

Happy holidays to you and family!

Thanks Steve, I have an ACOG TA01NSN on my Colt 6940 and really like it. So 7.62 variant should be good to go.

M1 Carbine parts? I have no recollection of those... :lies:

Happy Holidays to you and yours also Bud! :patriot:

Primary Arms 4x with a QD mount works good as long as you Loctite the screws first
