Saw an interesting GOALPOST update today, for those who don't subscribe to the Gun Owner's Action League email service I highly recommend it. http://wagoal.org/wordpress/ (today's update isn't on the site quite yet, but the email did get sent out) The update pointed out the looming WA state government "partial shutdown" because the democrats demand higher taxes even though they won't vote on their own tax proposals. We'll see if Frank Chopp has the balls this time to see what happens when the people of WA learn how little government they actually need. (oh my God, the Social Justice and Climate Change Agencies have shut down and the world is still spinning!) Of course the libs want to make the shutdown as excessively and needlessly painful as possible, hence why they want to shutdown state parks for the rarely-long 4th of the July weekend (even though it actually takes MORE money to "close" a park and enforce that closure than just leaving it open). One thing that goalpost noted, and some other gun websites have noted, is that firearm sales processing for pistol purchases and CPLs processing may be affected by lack of access to state databases. The Goalpost brought up the "A right delayed is a right denied" standard from MLK Jr and pointed out that the 2nd Amendment and WA State Const. Section 24 are MUST haves, not a "nice to have." Undoubtedly Jay Inslee does not consider gun rights to be "necessary" and he will likely furlough the personnel responsible for smooth background checks in the state. It will be interesting to see if: -this happens -an entity like SAF sues especially given how strong the state constitution is on "impair" -if we can get a court precedent that government bureaucracy responsible for regulating gun rights is deemed "essential" and cannot be shut down because it would violate civil rights What do you guys think?

Sounds like a good time to test the processing, and then join a class action suit if your rights are delayed. I'm in.

This could, and likely will, affect some people's lively hood. It's also many professional licenses. So unless the person can get some sort of extension, if their temp expires during this time they can't do business. Or if they can't even get that because the state office is closed. I like my wife's idea. If there is any stoppage of government because of not having a budget, then the legislature and executive don't get paid either. They are first on the block. Either they get paid late or not at all and it's considered a fine for not doing their jobs.

As I read this I'm reminded of the Federal Goobermint shutdown, when the Forest Service put up barricades around the Washington Monument way out by the sidewalks..... to prevent people from walking in. "We're closed" they said.
I cheered when some of the visitors revolted and moved the barricades, effectively saying "Fuck You.", and walked in anyways.
What unadulterated bullshit.

What unadulterated bullshit. Agrees. The WA state is so screwed up.......Democrat shut down, perpetrated by Democrats. Republicans get the blame!

I'd love to see all state campgrounds closed for the 4th of July. It would highlight government incompetence for people who otherwise are willfully ignorant of what their elected officials are doing. It would be good to remind the electorate that government is only accountable when everyone participates.

Why do you think the state databases will be shut down?

June 15th was my temp layoff date if they didn't pass the budget..guess where I'm at...

the only gun dept that gets affected is the firearms section. they don't do backgrounds if you purchase a firearm anyways. those are done by the local PD. and after 10 business days the pistol can be released anyway if desired by the ffl.

Do you think the issuance and renewals of CCP's will be affected?

What unadulterated bullshit. I was hunting during the fed shutdown. Way out in Okanogan there was a national forest area that someone had driven out to in order to put up fold-out signs to say the area was closed because of the shutdown. Not a manned area, just a camping/parking site. It was at least an hour or more to get there from any main road. Later on someone had thrown the sign into the woods.

Scare tactics. I always love the fact that there is zero fat in .gov. Laughable.
