Anybody here a pro? Anybody recommend one?

How about the DIY at home $100 kits, anybody played with one of those? I have a shotgun I want to camo and maybe a rifle but dont have any first hand experience with hydro dipping.

Not interested in any type of rattle can job. Too nice of a gun for a spray job!

I've watched all the videos. Does that count?
I'd like to try it myself but don't have anything to try it out on. :shocked4:

Seems like pretty cool stuff. Ive fondled some very nice work from a place in spokane and one down vancouver way. Its not cheap and im not sure how well it holds up on guns with regular use so i havent pulled the trigger yet. Thinking about sending the daughters 10/22 stock off as she wants green skulls and may serve as a cheaper test bed for the process

I know there are a couple places locally but sounded like they were newer and i hate to pay good money to be someones training pieces

so who here has had some done, where and how is it holding up?? resistent to cleaners, solvents, oils etc??

I have two Ruger 10/22s that have been dipped. One is completely dipped (barrel & everything) in green digital camo. The other is partially dipped (stock only) in Mossy Oak Break-up camo. They look nice, but the durability is shit. It's coming off in all the usual spots (butt plate, stock grip, underside of the forend, magazine well, trigger guard, etc.). I haven't even been hard on my rifles, either.

Guns for liberty....where did you get it done?? After seeing the work of what I'd consider pro's there are certainly varying levels of experience and quality.

Were yours clear coated after the graphics??

I should have done a better job of conveying that I did not send them out for dipping; I bought them this way. They are both Ruger "Distributor "Exclusives":

Mossy Oak Camo - http://www.ruger.com/products/1022DE/sp ... /1260.html

Green Digital Camo - http://www.ruger.com/products/1022DE/sp ... /1181.html

I don't know if the distributor names listed on those spec sheets are the ones actually performing the dip work, or if they outsource it to an undisclosed outfit (I suspect it's the latter). Either way, Ruger puts their name on it and proudly posts it on their website, so I figured the quality would be good. The quality of the dip job was great in terms of appearance; the durability of the coating is less than impressive.

I don't know anything about the clear coat of which you speak. Is it glossy? If so, neither of my rifles probably got a clear coat because they both have a matte finish. Maybe that's why the coating scratches off so easily...

im surprised by the low quality ruger camo finishes. Hydro dipping (of sorts. Not sure if its the exact process used as aftermarket?) Is the standard for camo shotguns nowadays and ive found it to be very durable.

My browning pump has been my duck gun for 11 years now and has many thousand rounds through it in the shittiest of weather. The hogue rubber material shows signs of expected wear but the metal is like new. I would expect an aftermarket dip to be as good BUT am glad to be hearing of issues with guns that actually see use instead of sitting in a safe.

Check out Spartan Arms in Bellingham. Hes a ways north, but very, very good hydro work. Great guy to deal with too.
