Too much muscle memory with the standard charging handle. But it's a neat innovation.

Agreed, side-charging is the way.

I keep thinking that this seems like a way to introduce an inadvertent out-of-battery condition.

Perhaps. There is the thumb lock button on the left side that should prevent that, as long as you keep your thumb under control.

But yeah, it could happen.
